Multiple devices at once

Hi Monzo,

I’ve been a customer since 2017 and I’ve been facing an issue that I’ve been secretly waiting for you to implement but it hasn’t happened yet. I’m aware of Monzo allowing 1 iOS and 1 android device to be logged in in parallel but what about multiple devices?

Could you please consider allowing multiple devices to be logged in at any given time without forcing them to logout?

Some banks already allow this. For example, if there’s any concern in terms of security, HSBC UK allow this with a maximum of 3 devices per account. There’s a section in which you can “manage your devices” and see what devices have been authorised to be logged in. Wise (former transferwise) and Revolut also allows this (just to name a few).

Rationale
This would make easier the process of checking the different Monzo products from the comfort of your device at home. For example, I make transactions from my phone but if I wanted to continue or do checks from my tablet once I get home I really can’t because I’d need to login again and it would log me out from my phone and even make me go through the process of “verification of ID”. This happens often when I’m using mobile data or connected from the office (different IP I guess).

There’s also the possibility of having 2 (or more devices) that can serve as a backup to authenticate the others or in case one gets lost/stolen. The principle of using other known device to authenticate yourself is currently common practice by other companies such as google, authy (google authenticator) and others. Not saying that you should copy them but just merely highlighting the fact that maybe it is not that crazy to suggest allowing multiple devices being logged in at once.

There have been a few mentions of this topic here but it never resulted in anything, could it be possible to please enable multiple devices (multiple android and multiple iOS devices)?

Other mentions of this topic are mentioned below:

I personally think the different phone numbers might not be a significant aspect as it would be just about the app being able to authenticate the user even if authenticated via SMS/phone call to their number on file. Even if using other phone as long as one form of ID is provided should suffice?

There’s a topic “ability to sign in from multiple devices simultaneously” but as I’m a new user I’m only allowed 2 links. I think this request is a 2 in 1. Also suggesting a full web interface which is not what I’m asking here.

This is exactly my situation and since it was posted this continues to be an issue

This is the topic where you need to add your vote:

I already added my vote and comment there, and did mention here as part of my statement

There’s a topic “ability to sign in from multiple devices simultaneously” but as I’m a new user I’m only allowed 2 links. I think this request is a 2 in 1. Also suggesting a full web interface which is not what I’m asking here.

but when you read the request the topic is pushing for a web version despite the title mentioning multiple device login. It does mention the usage of computer to login and further in the comment insists around the same more than actually insisting in multiple login. I think the title is a bit misleading.

Then you’ve done your part.

If you create a new topic, you’re just spreading the votes out and making it hard for Monzo to see how popular a request is* It’s best to keep everything in the one topic.

* Not that high votes mean they’ll do it, but you get the point.

They’re requesting the same thing. As they’re using the app to log in on their computer using some technical wizardry. The title is the same as yours, just worded differently.

:100: agree, the title is similar but the content is different and that’s why I created this to provide a “fresh view” as the other has been around for ages but it’s not focused on the one thing: multiple devices.

It would be nice if this could be merged into the other topic if that’s the best way. I don’t mind who owns the topic or who gets more votes I just dream of this feature. Can a mod merge this into the other if that’s the best way? at the time of voting it was 29 (I was vote 30!)

On the bright side, maybe this topic bring back to life the other topic? I didn’t vote myself for my own topic but just want to raise awareness. Maybe Monzo could say: we know but it is not a prio (likely!)

if so, how many sprints (if that’s used) until it becomes a priority? anyway, thank you guys

Sorry, I’ve just realised what I said wasn’t clear

When someone tags Alan like I did earlier, it means they believe it should be merged. Alan is the moderator of the community.

Sadly it doesn’t work like that.

They do keep an eye on the community now and then to review requests, but they rarely comment, and as I mentioned earlier, votes don’t really influence outcomes. We’ve seen highly-voted topics completely overlooked, while others with only a handful of votes get implemented.

There doesn’t seem to be any clear logic in how things are prioritised. Our best guess is that decisions are based on commercial value, weighed against their long backlog of tasks, and organised in some priority order that we’re not privy to.
