New plus card came! But already opened 😫

At least this sounds like something that can be easily, quickly, and cheaply fixed

Yes, it’s just a teething problem which won’t take a lot to resolve. It could be worse - no one’s had the envelope without their card yet!

For what it is worth mine has just arrived 100% sealed.

Was excited that mine came so quickly, but sadly mine has arrived opened too. As others have said seems like poor packaging - not the best start to Monzo Plus but mistakes happen of course. Will be a cost for Monzo that I’m sure they could do without right now - seems fairly widespread based on having quite a few reports of the same already and it’s probably the first day people will start receiving their cards?

I’m sure Monzo will very quickly change the packaging now there’s a few reports happening.

Probably safe to activate the card.

It probably is - but I still wouldn’t take that risk. I’d never feel comfortable knowing someone else could have the details.

It’s no big worry waiting really - it’s not like anyone is majorly out and about right now.

I’m beginning to wonder why I seem to be the only one with a Royal Mail sticker? I knew there was a reason why I trusted my postman…

What risk is there though? If someone uses the card it’s not like you’re liable for the charges…

I was somewhat surprised by how delicate the perforated element of the envelope was.
It was like it just peeled open. It was sealed but I wonder this is why many have found theirs open.

Mine arrived completely open too. Not going to take the risk. Will request a new one via chat. My girlfriends arrived part opened.
The envelopes are rubbish!

Yeah, because we all love the hassle of reporting fraud don’t we?

Surprised this got through QC because it seems very widespread. That said maybe employees cards were sent in bulk to Monzo therefore having different packaging.

Pressing a button isn’t really a hassle.

Could be that that Monzo did test the packaging, but only in small quantities, and that the sealing method used for the small quantity was different from the one used for the bulk quantities being seen now?

TBH I doubt we’ll ever actually know (as the fault lies with a third party, contractual obligations will probably override Monzo’s default to openess). Hopefully Monzo will be able to get some kind of refund or discount from whoever they contracted to provide the cards, otherwise it’s going to be a costly error they didn’t really need right now.

(In other news, I wonder how long it’ll be before we see this story complete with customer quotes from here crop up in the T#l#g#a#h? )

It’s not just about reporting fraud and being done with it - there is often some back and forth, and even then think about the bigger picture.

When someone purchases something with stolen card details, the business (whether small or large) has just lost their product, and will get a chargeback based on the fraud. They are unlikely to ever see that money or their product back again - at a time where businesses are really struggling, the least we can do is not use cards that we know have potential to have been compromised?

It’s ok @TTJJ has a button

If the business sold the product genuinely then they don’t get stung for the chargeback. You’re thinking about it too much. Monzo would foot the bill and then they’d learn their lesson to thoroughly test packaging in the future.

Right, because Monzo are looking for work for the COPs right now because they have people sat there twiddling their thumbs waiting for a fraud button to be pressed.

It might not be a hassle to the consumer (although it is), but that is not the only part of the equation.
