Where is this blog post
Who knows? Must be a long one of he’s still writing it though!
I still haven’t got the new version! Taking ages! I am very interested to see for myself, why there are so many negative comments!
I would imagine you’ll have it by early next week. In every case the most vocal are the dis-likers!
Many thanks, I looked forward to trying it! I am sure there are a fair portion of lovers also!!
Yeah, I think here and elsewhere (think any comments section on any site or any review site!) there is a tendency for those with noses bent out of shape to be more vocal
Here he goes again
I have briefly tried the new look back in labs, and I didn’t know my way around so I switched back. I don’t have the new look pushed yet so can’t go into details, but I remember being confused.
What I what to say though, the users of this forum don’t have to be UX/UI experts to comment on the new design. Regardless of the level of everyone’s proficiency, if a good number of people are saying that the new design is worse, they should probably be listened to and the causes investigated so that they can be addressed for everyone. They’re not moaning because they want to, but because out of frustration.
This community is not representative of the wider Monzo public and you would never look at the feedback only. Otherwise it’s just those that shout loudest that win.
Human beings hate change, it’s 101 behavioural science. If the feedback is still rife next month and the data proves that a vast majority are struggling to find endpoints, then it will have to change (spoiler alert it won’t have to).
Also the whole people say more about stuff they dont like thing. Pretty sure more people on the forum are in favour of the new design than against from general opinion I’ve seen.
Sadly I haven’t received the updated UI yet
Honestly, count your blessings. Its slower, wastes a good 35% of the screen real estate, hides some features and nukes others and dark mode is byebye.
What do you think is hidden? Summary is accessible from 2 places on the home page
Apart from the pulse graph what has gone? Dark mode never existed in the first place so not sure what you mean by that?
Maybe its just rose tinted glasses now Ive had to spend 5 more minutes with the new UI and Im remembering the old UI back. I realy liked the graph (why cant we have toggle-able options guys?). The old UI definitely didnt stand out compared to darkish themes everywhere else.
I guess I’m mostly upset that I almost finished moving everything from a highstreet bank purely because the old UI ticked every box I wanted in a bank app only to have the UI I moved away from forced down my throat half a year later.
To boot, the monzo app is now bigger than the old app, just as annoying to use and just as slow. Maybe I’m bitter or hating change or something but I mostly feel frustrated that no one gets a toggle or a choice other than to uninstall and go elsewhere
Would a couple of toggles to disable the big card view, the in your face help sections, the graph, the white everything and all that have been too difficult?
If that’s the only reason you hate the entire design then simply make a suggestion.
They’re not going to push out the new design and then never touch it again. I’m sure they’ll be adding to it continually
I’d have thought so, yes.
Imagine the impact on development of such a toggle. Now, instead of designing a new feature to work with the app, you need to design it twice, once for each variation.
The result? Software costs are doubled at a stroke and the already strained COps resources now have twice as much stuff to try and remember in order to be able to sensibly support customers.
The pulse graph didn’t serve a purpose anymore as it was really designed for the prepaid days
The good news (I am also a fan of it) is that they haven’t finished yet and are going to look at bringing something like it back in some form
The app is designed to allow more things to fit in the future. I hated it to begin with but now I find it as easy to use as the old one
I really hope so. All it had to be was a couple toggles to make the stuff thats IMO a bit in your face and should only be part of a welcome-esque walkthrough. This just feel like a huge step backwards.
You’ll get used to it A lot of us here have been trialling it for months and personally when I look back at the old design it makes me cringe
If you’re making an entire new UI layout for each UI option you are doing something wrong.
