I wasn’t suggesting that but it’s too a simplistic a way to dismiss the fact that the more variations of things exist, the more complications it adds to future development.
At the end of the day the Monzo devs know their code best so I can’t speculate on how right you or I are in our speculation. I can say that in my experience modular designs pay off and allow options at virtually no overhead but again: not a monzo dev.
The responses here are all super positive. Having tried the redesign before and hated it, and still hating it I wont be keeping the app installed for now and I’ll check back every few weeks to see if its gotten better before jumping ship since you guys all seem to have faith. Hopefully I’m cynical for no reason and things do get better because I was really looking forward to not having this sort of experience again.
I’m quite a fan of the new layout - I think it’s much simpler and cleaner - viewing pots on one neat list is a plus.
Glad the graph has gone, never really found value beyond seeing the day I got paid have a huge spike.
The only things I don’t like;
- the swiping action from the main item feed - 3 swipes to actually start scrolling. Maybe start on the small card layout and have a pull-down to see full card plus controls?
- Inconsistencies in “back” and “close” button locations - I’m sure there’s some development logic for when a page has a ‘back’ button vs a ‘close’ but appears the same to the user. The buttons for both these things seem to be in different places - would be easier to get used to if they behaved the same.
- The multi-layered settings menu.
Otherwise looking forward to how it develops
I would recommend Abstract on Netflix anyway, but one of the new six episodes in the second series is particularly on point for this thread:
https://www.netflix.com/title/80057883
It covers a period at Instagram during which the logo, UX and profile are redesigned, which was not exactly popular at the time
This is partly due to the fact that the app currently supports both the old and new versions.
However, I really think Monzo has to issue a new app just for the US market rather then trying to have one app supporting both countries - and the sooner this is done, the easier it will be.
The new UI is awful.
Form over function.
It is far less clear and usable.
Truly terrible.
So I haven’t actually been ‘rolled out yet’. Any one else still waiting to find out what the fuss is all about?
Specifically?
Same here. I haven’t got it yet either. I’m on Android, is it just iOS maybe?
You mean other than all of it?
Previously there was a page that gave a convenient overview of all of your pots in one place, and easy access to the details of each.
Being able to see all of those tracker bars was great.
But now whooo, look at the whoosh, look at the wheee! Swipe and slide! And whooooo!
And it is not as useful.
There used to be good clear separation between different accounts. Easy to select which one you wanted, but information was properly separated.
But have to have the whoooooooosh!
To be fair from a lot of the comments here it’s apparent that people are not aware of the swipe down to view all accounts/pots function.
This desperately needs signposting better in app, I think that would solve a lot of negative feedback.
Press your profile picture on the top left to get an overview of all your pots in one place.
I really like the new layout in its now final form. It takes a while to grow on you from the old layout but after a couple of days use, you’d wonder how you ever put up with the old look.
My only gripe is that there are still effectively three different settings menus. I hope that in the future they consolidate these into something more user friendly and navigable.
I’m the same, still not rolled over and I am on iOS. It’s taking much longer than I thought but maybe they have given up; after all, the developers put so much time and effort in to the new UI and then mostly all they hear is that people hate it. I get constructive criticism but some people are acting like they’ve stolen all their money at the same time as changing the way the app looks
That is something I wish was in the new UI for pots.
Thanks for this recommendation
I withdrew some money from my gifts pot this morning, but i have one in my own account and we also have one in our joint account
Needless to say i withdrew from the wrong gifts pot.
Its a small amd reversible issue but it’s annoying, i dont want both of these accounts to be so integrated, theyre separate accounts for a reason
There are a lot of comments on here about its bad because there isn’t this or that, and then someone else saying well you just do this. This to me points out there are a number of hidden bits of the app that people struggle to find, which Monzo need to address, people shouldn’t need to be told, or have pointed out, where to find things in a relatively simple app. As and example Apple removed 3D touch probably because it was too hidden and no one ever used it.
You could rename them to ‘Gifts (Personal)’ and ‘Gifts (Joint)’ to introduce an extra visual aid to stop withdrawing from the wrong pot.
or at the very least, rename your Personal Gifts pot so it differs from the ‘Gifts’ pot in the JA
They’ve been running analytics on ‘new user’ of the new design for months to demonstrate to their own satisfaction that the ‘discoverability’ of the feature set is at least as good as with the pre-existing UI.
All of the stuff that people are suggesting as remedial actions have already been looked at as far as I can tell. They were quite up front on here about what they did and how it was done at the time. It says a lot about some people’s opinion of Monzo that they automatically assume that none of this has been done!
