TFL will not accept card in TFL account for Tunnel or Congestion Charges

I thought to pre-register my car with a TFL account for the Tunnel charging that starts in April 2025 so I can get the discount. It’s the same account for Congestion Charging and ULEZ and I have never registered before. Oh dear, it won’t accept my Monzo card as a valid card to save for charging against. (I don’t want a direct debit). Had to resort to my trusty credit card. This why I am never going Full Monzo.

Does this need merging?

This is related to a new charge that’s being introduced for both the Blackwall and Silvertown Tunnels, if this is more than a one-off a new topic seems perfectly appropriate as others may well be searching for this too.

This may be a TfL issue rather than a Monzo issue. I just tried to add a Santander debit card and it gave me a ‘Card type not accepted’ error.

(Wouldn’t accept my Monzo card either.)

The Pay To Drive service has been around for a while.

It might be but the tunnel charges are new and being introduced once the Silvertown Tunnel opens in April. So maybe it’s not quite the same service.

AFAIK it’s the same service. Just that people who don’t pay CC or ULEZ will be paying the tunnels charge.

I don’t drive so have no idea, but the fact that more than one person/bank/card is causing errors makes me think there is something separate about these tunnel charges.

Let’s merge EVERYTHING into a general ‘Monzo’ topic, streamline everything. It’s simpler this way.

Hi,

I am also trying to setup Auto Pay on my TfL Road User account.

I want to do card payments rather than direct debit. When i get to the card details page (powered by sbs.e-paycapita.com) it says “Card type not accepted” whether i use my main card or virtual cards.

Is there a way to fix this?

Confirming this is still an issue — the paycapita page said “Card type not accepted” when I attempted to set up autopay in a London Road User Charging account on the TFL website with my Monzo debit card just now.

This issue continues.I tried to set up the following today and my Monzo cards were not accepted .
“TfL - London Road User Charging - Auto Pay”

It will however accept a Monzo account for a direct debit.
