Simple Questions Thread (Newbie Friendly šŸ™‚)

I donā€™t work for Monzo and nobody who has replied in this topic does either.

Iā€™m simply explaining how the support is weighted. It favours those who are customers who contact them through the in app chat. Their generic email address is much slower because it probably gets flooded with all sorts of requests.

I understand you canā€™t contact them through the app which is why I said that if youā€™ve phoned and emailed thatā€™s all you can do. Youā€™ll just have to be patient and Iā€™m sure theyā€™ll get back to you as soon as they can.

With summary I understand that the left to spend = balance - upcoming committed spending, but how does it work out where the dial is in terms of green, orange, red and that ā€˜i will have Ā£120 left overā€™? Does the left to spend go down when I spend on a card payment?

Nobody on here can help Iā€™m afraid, you can get a better understanding of what has happened and why by reading this article:

Calling 0800 802 1281 or emailing help@monzo.com are your only options for resolving this.

Hi guys,
Iā€™m currently working on a case study about Monzo in university. While searching for news etc. I always see the ā€œcontribution margin per customerā€ which is about +5 GBP at the moment and increased a lot over the past years. In the annual report, it is explained as ā€œrevenue minus variable costs including expected credit lossesā€ - Which variable costs are actually deducted from the revenue to get to that number? Itā€™d be great to have a detailed calculation on how you get to this contribution margin.

Thanks a lot and best wishes from Germany

Hello and welcome

I think your question is a little beyond the scope of what weā€™re able to help with. This forum is predominantly Monzo customers who help each other out, mainly with the app and itā€™s features.

I wish you luck in getting the answer though!

Can I ban certain direct debits from my acconnt?

My netflix account is compromised, and it Netflix takes money from my Monzo account, is there a way to ban direct debits?

You can cancel a direct debit from within the scheduled payments tab of the app. Simply select the direct debit and cancel it.

Is your Netflix payment a card payment rather than direct debit? If it is you canā€™t block this from within the app. I presume you have cancelled your Netflix account first?

I assume that because Netflix are still taking payments theyā€™re not aware that your account has been compromised?

Iā€™d therefore recommend that you speak to Netflix in the first instance to explain what has happened and have them resolve it. By cancelling it yourself you run the risk of being in debt to them which will affect your credit rating.

I donā€™t think Netflix appears on credit reports? So donā€™t think it would affect any credit history, but yep agree speak to Netflix, suspend account :+1:

Ahh ok I did wonder :+1:

I also wonder how long Netflix will keep trying to charge his account after he has cancelled the direct debit. I know if my payment failed Iā€™d be annoyed to be instantly cut off so there must be some grace period?

Does he therefore run the risk of racking up more than 1 months worth of debt?

We learn everyday , I think they attempt once? Then they will send you an email and maybe give you a few days grace period then they would hold your account until you pay or update payment detailsā€¦

Nope they donā€™t work like that, itā€™s more a pay as you go sort of subscription They donā€™t keep it on and rack up a bill Itā€™s more donā€™t pay well take it away lol :smirk:

There is no direct debit. It is a card subscription.

Hi, Iā€™m just in the process of getting a Monzo account, as I am an English language assistant, ā€˜basedā€™ in the UK, though I donā€™t earn here.
Currently, I work in Spain, and Iā€™d like to be able to transfer my euroā€™s that I earn into my Monzo UK account.
How would I do so? Is there a charge, and is it easy and flexible if I were to move countries with my work in the following years?
Should I register as a Spanish tax resident with Monzo even though I donā€™t earn enough?

If you could help me, Iā€™d be very greatful for this, as currently a bank transfer from my Spanish bank account to my UK high street bank account is extortionate and complex.
Thanks, J

You could use transferwise to transfer from your Spanish account to monzo

Spanish Bank Euros > Transferwise Euro Account > Transferwise GBP Account > Monzo

Your fees will be much MUCH lower doing this (I do it often). I canā€™t really comment on your tax arrangements though. Get >> Transferwise I have the ā€˜Borderless Accountā€™ but donā€™t use the debit card that comes with it. I donā€™t even know where it is, I have no use for it, and I donā€™t keep a balance on it.

When Monzo officially supports IBAN I will check that out, but for now the above works great.

Hi, I donā€™t understand why I canā€™t confirm transactions through your website. My phone has died, and to order a new one with my Monzo card Iā€™m being asked to confirm the transaction on the app which I obviously canā€™t access due to dead phone. I have emailed your help address a day ago, no reply. I tried calling your help number, no answer. Iā€™m very frustrated because Monzo is my only UK account, having moved to the UK 18 moths ago, and I donā€™t know if Iā€™ll be able to ordrer my new phone before I fly to Ireland for Christmas in two days.

If itā€™s any consolation (it probably wonā€™t be), if you had a Nationwide Credit card youā€™d be in the same boat. They confirm transactions by SMS.

The only options I can think of to suggest are to borrow a phone, or buy a cheap phone from a shop. Neither of which are ideal. At least if you buy a cheap (second hand) phone, youā€™ll have it while you are away and so wonā€™t have the added stress of wondering if your replacement phone will arrive in time.

Hope it gets sorted, anyway. :+1:
