My postcode is not listed on Monzo and I could not sign up because of that, Any help would be appreciated.
There is a workaround, but it’s slow and you have to do the legwork.
Having read all the information just out of curiosity what how can I find these big 3 companies, It tried googling but it is showing tons of names and I personally don’t know about any credit scoring companies. help me out here cryptically.
Experian, Equifax and TransUnion are the main ones. They’re smaller ones but most of them link up to one above.
Just checking, you do live somewhere within the British Isles where Monzo works, don’t you? In other words, you can’t sign up if you live on the Channel Islands, nor on the Isle of Man.
Money Saving Expert Credit Club (Experian), Credit Karma (TransUnion) and ClearScore (Equifax) all give you free access to your credit report.
ClearScore and Credit Karma have apps in the app store which are also free.
I am signing up with Dorset address
Experian, Equifax and TransUnion have my address listed, it was not listed 2 weeks ago I requested Equi… to list my address around that time. How long do you think it will take for this address listing to appear in Monzo
If the address is relatively new (like a new estate, or a new build) you’ll have to get onto the local council to update the Gazetteer which is the Royal Mail database of every address in the country.
You can also do that yourself. I had to recently. Our address doesn’t exist on around 40pc of those automated forms
Thanks! Didn’t know it could be done direct. Monzo might be using an out of date Gazetteer, I guess.
Royal Mail, Experian, Equifax and TransUnion all of them have my address listed but Monzo!
I think Monzo may have some specific threshold like they may sync there address’s database once every month. I listed my address around two weeks ago so I guess it would take a few more weeks for them to list it.
In short, it’s the Planning Dept of the local authority.
Longer answer: The Royal Mail owns the Postcode Address File, and this combines with data from local authorities and Ordnance Survey fed into an organisation called GeoPlace, which collates postcodes and grid references and assigns a Unique Property Reference Number to every place in the UK, resulting in the National Address Gazetteer.
In case anyone (no-one) was interested, here’s how they they survey your street to put it on t’map
It didn’t do much good, only a very small amount of “select your address” systems have picked ours up, even after submitting it. I guess it takes some time to filter through, if at all
I’d still say that the local authority has to provide the actual address details into GeoPlace, and if the local authority maps, and the Royal Mail postie get it right, then it’s the fault (by the sounds of it) of the people based at all those locations not properly using their correct addresses.
If it’s a problem for you, could you add a What3Words geo-location to deliveries, so that couriers go to the correct point on the ground?
I am surprised that Monzo isn’t doing much to solve this address issue and the best we can do is to request other parties to list our address and then patiently wait for Monzo to pick up the updated Address Gazetteer so that we can open an account. Quite strange!
Not sure they can do much… I used to work for a place that subscribed to the PAF data file… it only comes out 4 times a year then it’s nontrivial converting the data to something you can used (used to come on DAT, it’s probably DVDs now).
As long as royal mail has the correct information it’ll sort itself out eventually.
I know what it’s like… I used to live at 11 (flat) (road) and I frequently had to go over to 11 (road) to pick up my mail because companies either didn’t have a field for the flat name or ignored it.
I’m not. Every business in the UK is in the same position, and your problem affects a minuscule amount of people, for a relatively short period of time.
In business terms, it’s not worth someone at Monzo’s time to sort this out for just you.
Agreed. When we moved in (June 22) our address didn’t exist. Updated it via Royal Mail and for about a month had to manual enter.
It appears mostly everywhere now so in the grand scheme of things it really wasn’t an issue
