šŸ‡ŖšŸ‡ø Monzo in Spain [Discussion]

Cajamar bank is from memory one of the biggest financial cooperatives in Spain and the first regional savings bank there.

Tenerife is a turistic place, there are a lot of atm independent or that offer exchange and charge you even if you have a spanish card. It is not like uk that you can withdrawn without cost in almost every cash machine.

Updated the wiki to say that BBVA do charge but less than Santanderā€™s ā‚¬5. Couldnā€™t find a working Caixa cajero automĆ”tico yet.

Not sure if already mentioned, but Iā€™m still having trouble using Monzo on Spanish toll road automated payment machines. I regularly use them and have tried a number of times over the past few months - but to no avail. The card is simply returned without any transaction being made.

Iā€™m not sure when the Three information was posted, but I can confirm that in November, both the app and the notifications were working as expected.

Heading off to Spain in a fortnight. Having read the last 20 or so posts it seems many ATM machines now charge for a withdrawal, is this the case?

Iā€™m currently in Spain and can confirm that La Caixa Bank and Banco Popular DO NOT charge any extra commissions for ATM withdrawals. Just remember that you have to select ā€œwithout conversionā€ when given the chance.

Ah brilliant - cheers :+1:

Cajamar are free as well.

Iā€™ve just been charged for using a BBVA cash machine

Yes, that is known

But do you know how much they charge?

You said here theyā€™re free? image

Yes but I also said that might change so I asked what charge they may be now, as only someone visiting Spain can find out for us.

Fair enough

Thought it was quite a recent comment you made

The charge was only ā‚¬1.87

ā‚¬1.87 is quite good. I paid Ā£1.99 to withdraw Ā£10 in London!

Still better than Santander who chargers me ā‚¬5 euors last year so I declined. Going back to Spain 15 July so will see he I fair then.

Can confirm that LA CAIXA are still fee free
Used on 28th June in Santa Eulalia, Ibiza

Just be aware, despite being able to use my Monzo card in Menorca, it wasnā€™t accepted on my recent Jet2 flight. The cabin crew obviously didnā€™t realise what it was and claimed it was a prepaid card. Despite explaining that it wasnā€™t they wouldnā€™t accept it and I had no other means of payment. Iā€™ve raised this with Monzo (although itā€™s not their fault!) and Jet2 but just be aware, I wouldnā€™t want anyone else to be caught out as I was.

Hi I donā€™t plan on using my monzo card to withdraw money whilst in Lanzarote but I do plan on using it to pay for our hotel which is just under Ā£2k. Does anyone know if we can use it for such a high amount and do we get charged? Thank you

I would have thought that as long as itā€™s ok with your hotel and you have the money in the account, itā€™ll be fine.

Word of warning, the only place I found that didnā€™t take card was the entrance to the Volcano (annoyingly!)

Even more annoyinglyā€¦ they accept card when you are top of the Volcanoā€¦ go figureā€¦
