Monzo Bank Statements (For Mortgages or anything else)

I can’t see any. The bank statements were the easy thing, as I had been religiously filing them away each month…

I’m thinking along the lines of things like a location history. If you’re using your card at in-person POS terminals every day, banks have a reasonable idea of your location history (not perfect, I’ve made purchases here in the UK where the terminal was ‘in’ the US, Germany and France, and I’ve made purchases in the US where it was ‘in’ Canada - but in general - plus those are easy-ish to filter out - remove transactions where you couldn’t possibly be where the terminal says it is based on travel time).

What if they could give you a quick summary of the location history they believe you to have had? Do you think this would help you provide evidence to the Home Office, or would they just ignore it?

They would absolutely ignore it. Otherwise I’d have exported my Google location history and be done with it (this actually makes sense for a change: this isn’t about my location, it’s about my residence. It would be entirely possible for me to be in the UK most days but not be resident here (I actually have a friend who lives in Germany but works in London. The commute isn’t that much worse than from Kent…))

Totally feel your pain. My partner is here on a spouse visa and we know at the 2.5 year mark we will need to once again show them all our HSBC statements to prove a relationship despite been married, we will need to do this again at the 5 year mark before he gets PR.
This is one of the key reasons I will not get my salary paid into the Monzo account - paper statements while antiquated are still a fact of life for many government agencies. That and the fact we want a joint account!

We can happily provide paper statements  We can also print and use the official stamp, and post them out to you if required  (I want a go with that stamp some day!)

Well that is interesting! Are your staff happy to print and post out 6 months of statements when required? At the moment i have a lever arch folder with statements in them (HSBC kindly hole punch them for you!)
I would love to have confidence that when i need to prove combined finances at visa renewal time for my partner that Monzo can provide the statements i need.

Can’t you just request the entire pack of statements when you need it, so in roughly 5 years? By law Monzo have to keep your transaction history for longer than that anyway so they will still have the info.

We can provide statements for as long as the Current Account has been open

I’m sure we can also hole punch them for you!

I’m not sure if this is about here already, but is there a feature in place where you can get a monthly pdf statement made available.

Hey Martin

We’ll be releasing an update pretty soon that’ll let you generate a PDF statement from within the app :+1:

In the meantime, you can reach out to us via the in-app chat and we can send you a statement :slightly_smiling_face:

Any chance it can be automatically sent/generated?

Thanks for that, Ian!

I’m not sure if they’ll be sent automatically, but let me check and I’ll get back to you on this :+1:

Not a dealbreaker but would be cool.

Good news; it won’t be the case right away, but in future we do plan to generate and send your statements automatically :slightly_smiling_face:

Great!

But how will Monzo release this for Andriod? When I asked for the statement they were overly concerned about security and privacy and wouldn’t send anything unless photo ID + Selfie was provided.

I am guessing you’ll have to bring Android security up to scratch for this to be released as shown here in @kavi’s post.

That screenshot is from a working version on my phone.
There are no additional ID checks required to export a bank statement from the app.

Why would they do that? The data is all there anyway, if you have access to the phone, why is there extra security for a PDF? I’m always in favour of security, but this one I truly don’t get. Anyone have a guess?
