In-App Balances Displaying Incorrectly

I’d rather just see a Monzo holding screen or not get into the app than get in successfully to see it all over the place with 0 balance. I haven’t had such experiences with a legacy bank really.

I wouldn’t say the message is generic, it’s providing you with the exact information?

Although no glitch or display issue is good, the legacy banks are no better when it comes to stability.

Lloyds recently had an outage, TSB is just a constant issue etc.

Yeap, thanks for pointing that out? It’s still not good though.

This is a fair point and has bugged me a little bit recently too. Especially on a slow connection.

IMO it should show the last updated balance with a message saying when it was last updated or if it’s updating.

or just have 3 … where the balance is until it’s loaded.

Yeah, I agree it’s not good. I guess I just have a different crisis scale than some others – I wouldn’t classify this as a “major” incident. :man_shrugging:

I do agree that a holding screen would be better. These things happen though.

Is there any reason why this wasn’t reported on the status page?

I’m not making assumptions, I stated that I would love to know what has caused it. Given it doesn’t happen normally, we can presume something was done. That something should not be able to impact the account currency displayed in the app, never mind balances.

Why do people feel the need to defend Monzo at every turn? And @danbeddows, quit with the “nice try” comments, eh? Not the first time you’ve taken that approach with me, the insinuation being that I’m attempting to trash Monzo for the sake of it. I was equally critical of Starling on their forum when they fell short of expectations. They should be held to account and I do find this sort of error to be a major cause for concern. It may not bother some customers but it shouldn’t happen.

Look, how would you think the ordinary person would see it? Open the app and think ‘oh f**k my balance is 0 and showing in USD. Not great, but no biggie!’ That is a significant concern for most folk. People really need to see the bigger picture outside of the blinkered Monzo fan boy view (of which I am one most of the time).

Oh yes, my Investec savings pot is showing as zero, and the total at the top of the account screen is without my savings total.

Would be seriously alarming with any other bank, but I’m sure Tom is just borrowing some money from peeps to buy a Jag or something, and the full total will be back and visible soon.

Agree this should be on the status page though!

This 100%. It’s in Monzo’s interests to receive feedback, good and bad. No need to sugar coat it when they get things wrong.

That’s quite concerning, although I presume related to the original issue?

Hopefully it gets fixed soon.

Same here. Literally was just about to transfer all of my savings to my main account as I need to use it, and it’s gone! :scream:

Mine still at 0, although it does still show the deposits etc. Hopefully all will be sorted soon enough!

I’ve agreed that this kind of thing shouldn’t happen, and it’s good you started this thread and raised the issue. My response above is not because of a “blinkered Monzo fan boy view” (great way to be sexist and dismissive at the same time btw!). If we avoid generalising and simplifying people and their motivations, browsing this forum shows lots of pro-Monzo people who raise concerns about bugs, features, and other issues. That’s great.

What I find grating is when people start extrapolating and using a single issue to go into crisis mode. I agree that this could be a significant concern for an individual person. But some people on this thread have tried to spin it as a ‘major’ cause of concern about Monzo generally.

My pot still shows the totals I put in and earned when I go into it though. And I can still press withdraw … and put any amount in - is that normal? … not going to press the button though to withdraw 100k though! (That’s more than I really have in there … for the avoidance of doubt!)

I’m not here to argue.

Hi, I think the backend still knows the balance, because if I try withdraw an amount that makes it less than 1k it says i need to shut the pot, so authorise the transfer and it should initiate

Woah that was terrifying  Savings pot was £0, I saw my account balance had changed to quite a low figure, scrolled down to my pots and gasped a bit :joy:

Glad to see it’s just a little hiccup, the money still exists and that Monzo are working hard on restoring the numbers :hot_coral_heart:

Probably because it’s a Monzo forum. It’s be interesting to see what would be said here if a traditional bank had these minor/major display issues.
