Get Paid Early (Discussion)

Is the animation really absolutely necessary?

Can’t I just acknowledge I want the money early?

I like the animation, but not at the expense of usability.

I believe only if you get the message as shown above, you are selected for the trial…that’s what the op said on live chat

I quite like the animation.

Isn’t iOS 13 in beta? Didn’t Monzo issue a warning that things would be a bit funky until full public release?

As I said, I also like the animation. And I’ve managed to get my money every time via my iPad, which isn’t iOS beta.

But is it necessary? I’d say no. And it’s also not consistent. There’s no other process where you have to drag into pots, out of pots etc.

This makes me appreciate how far the new design has come on. It’s so cluttered and looks very dated

I apologise if this has been discussed, however can you ask Monzo Customer Services to turn on the ‘Get Paid Early’ feature for you or are the logistics involved more complex than that?

No, it’s belong rolled out slowly so unfortunately you’ll need to wait until it’s enabled for you

I’m sad work pays me via Faster Payments :frowning:

I had to message COps about this - I got a notification about a payment I could claim early, but had to swipe the animation which didn’t work on iOS 13. Was a bit frustrating that an animation is the thing that doesn’t work, but also that they couldn’t manually set me as having accepted without having to swipe. Seems a bit user-hostile and accessibility unfriendly.
Fortunately the payment was just a TfL refund for a delayed journey so a tiny amount that happened to be coming by BACS but if it had been my salary on a day i was totally skint I’d have been wound up!

Whilst I feel your pain… I think this is always going to be the stumbling block for issues like yours.

If it didn’t work on iOS12, then fair enough… But anytime something doesn’t work on iOS13, it’ll always be the “Beta” issue…

Yeah I get it, but it’s a dumb thing not to work between iOS versions. Especially when it’s being rolled out in a month. Why can’t it just be an ‘OK’ button instead of an animation? And to have no manual workaround that the COps can tick on your behalf seems short sighted.

This does seem to be the way with Monzo - If it doesn’t work with how it was originally programmed, there is no way around it (see Monzo Plus).

I guess it’s one of the downsides to pumping out MVP features and not working on them afterwards.

Whilst I get the frustration on this particular issue I don’t agree.

Monzo came out straight away and said the app wouldn’t work fully with iOS 13 and that they wouldn’t support it fully until release. So the fact that something doesn’t work is absolutely what you should expect when using an unsupported OS.

I can see both sides here…

A new ios that the vast majority of uses will be moving over to in a month or two is something that should be considered during development.

As a developer myself we are told to get things right first time as much as possible and cut down on “rework”, silly to not have one eye on if things will work with the new os really.

I agree that you take the risk using an os before public release also though and they have no obligation to support it just yet

If you’re running a beta and its not working - file a bug - if you’re running a beta and an app isn’t working, try to join TestFlight so you can file a bug to the developer - more than likely, monzo have got the bug raised and will be fixed :man_shrugging:t2:

I’m on the TestFlight and I let them know. I’m aware nothing is guaranteed to work in iOS 13, I’m fine with that. I’m just saying of all the things not to work, it’s ridiculous its an animation which isn’t required in the first place. Sure it’s cute but it could very easily be an OK button like every other similar screen across the app uses.

But, cute bird :bird:

I get what you mean

It’s a “wow” feature created by the growth team specifically to drum up interest, be shown to colleagues, be shared on social media et al, aimed at getting more people to pay salary in

So it could be an OK button, but then none of:

It doesn’t have to be instead of…

There should be be an ok button as well, not everyone is into the gimmicks or games for getting your own money.

Especially so if the technical team aren’t able to “ok” it for you.

Seems like a swing and a miss here (I’ll say again, I’ve managed to get it working every month and I quite like the animation. I was the first to share it on here).

It’ll be cluttered to have both. This wouldn’t be an issue if it wasn’t on a Beta :man_shrugging:t2:
