Energy Switching šŸ’”

What if you are already with Octopus? (Like me) would this setup allow automatic selection of the best tariffs?

How do you sign up to this?

Been meaning to find an energy supplier, this would be perfect.

Already with :octopus:

I was wondering the same as I am also already with Octopus but, if monzo app can handle the best traffis and etc then awesome! Lets hope so.

So just thought Iā€™d try it out as I got the popup in app.

Shouldnā€™t the year payment be x12 the monthly?

106.02 X 12 = 1272.24
1232.30 / 12 = 102.69

Got the notification a few days ago. It would cost me Ā£60 up-front to end my contract early and switch suppliers, negating any savings that Octopus canā€™t offer me anyway lol

Would appreciate a button to put in when my current contract ends to not bother asking until then, or a few weeks before when I can leave without paying any exit fees.

Iā€™d love a button which says nah Iā€™m ok or that quote isnā€™t good enough, thanks. With a NEXT and remind me it all assumes your going ahead at that point, rather than going back, back, back, back, dots and clear. That quote is over Ā£60 more expensive than Iā€™m currently paying a year.

This is in-line with all other Monzo ā€œhey spend money on somethingā€ prompts, like loans and Plus. I force quit the app and load it back up again as itā€™s quicker

I gulped when I saw the estimated monthly cost of Ā£106.02. Iā€™m assuming that is for dual fuel?

I pay Ā£58.99 a month but my direct debit is set too high by Ā£8.99 a month as my total annual bill for dual fuel is just about Ā£600. Iā€™m currently on a 15 month fix with Utility Point. I submit monthly meter readings so my bills are accurate. Hopefully my supplier will be rolling out smart meters in the near future and so my hope is, my monthly direct debit will more accurately reflect my actual useage.

Do you know if Octopus will pay that Ā£60 for you?

I know Bulb currently offer to refund you for any exit fees when you switch to them. From bulb.co.uk:

Even if they did, Iā€™d be paying Ā£80 a year more with Octopus than my current supplier. Incidentally, Iā€™d be paying Ā£6 a month more with bulb than my current supplier too.

Yeah dual fuel, for 5016 electric which is high and 12000 Gas which is about medium.

Iā€™m currently paying Ā£101 a month with Peopleā€™s Energy, which covers roughly when itā€™s Ā£60 in hot summer and Ā£140 usage in harsh winter.

Last year I was paying around Ā£80 mth but prices have gone insane.

Our electric bill averages around Ā£30 a month and our gas around Ā£25 in winter though in the summer our gas useage drops to around Ā£7 a month because the heating never goes on. The highest gas bill weā€™ve had so far was in December 18 at Ā£31.42, which I thought was pretty good to be honest. Iā€™m a bit of a MSE Energy Club stalwart and check the competitors frequently to make sure Iā€™m not paying more than I have to.

Iā€™ve had the energy switching offer appear in my joint account - despite the fact that Iā€™m already an Octopus customer (and have the DD coming out of my joint account) the offer screens allowed me to proceed all the way to the ā€˜Switch to Octopusā€™ button.

Presumably this isnā€™t available to existing Octopus customers? Why isnā€™t Monzo using the data they have to exclude me? Why do I need to select my address when Monzo already have my address?

I like the idea of switching in the app but feel as though the offer details could be so much smarter leveraging the information Monzo have already. Great potential but mediocre execution.

I think the annual price deducts the Ā£40 switching incentive from the 12 x Monthly price.

Thatā€™s pretty decent usage, I wish ours was lower but our house has wooden window frames, and we have a :baby: to keep warm. We could probably knock a tenner max off the monthly if we really skimped.

Watch out for Outfoxā€™s the Market which tends to get near the top of the MSE energy club.
Cheap energy but they should have lost their license by now. Iā€™ve had three Ombudsman Service cases against them.

Ah good spot, annoys me with the 6p itā€™s not Ā£1232.24 if weā€™re taking Ā£40 off 12x the monthly.

So the quote is 106.025 which they are showing rounded down, but using unrounded to x12 rather than the rounded monthly.

I personally donā€™t think they should be taking anything off the year price and the incentive is separate.

Iā€™m very picky which energy supplier I go with. Outfox the Market was not on my radar. Cheapest is definitely not always the best. Utility Point are a small supplier. Iā€™ve been with them since May last year and never had a problem with them. Iā€™ve contacted them just once right at the beginning of my contract just to make sure the switch from my previous supplier was going well. I even got Ā£25 credit from them once the switch had gone through.

Same for me - thought Monzo were trying to be smarter than this.

Mines says the Ā£40 credit is included in the yearly price. Which appears to make up the difference in prices.
