The only way you are going to know that, is if you feed your actual previous 12 month useage into a calculator such as provided by switching services out there. Actual energy costs vary from region to region depending on which supplier you are looking at. If I did want to switch to Bulb Energy for instance, even if they paid my Ā£60 exit fees, theyād still cost me more monthly than I currently pay. I gleaned that information from my latest price comparison on MSE Energy Club.
Just attempted to get a quote through this as my energy/gas are due next month, but itās not cheaper than what Iām paying at the moment even after putting in my energy usage info⦠£5 a month more expensive than what Iām on currently. Obviously when it gets closer to my renewal time, Iāll check back with Octopus and Compare The Market and stuff to see whatās cheaper!
Looks like Monzo have added OVO Energy to their energy switching service:
The digital challenger bank has announced a partnership with two challeneger energy providers, OVO Energy and Octopus Energy to give customers a seamless energy switching experience.
Iāve just switched because Spark energy messed me around so much. I was paying about Ā£26/pm for my electricity, then they randomly closed my account. When I phoned them up to see what was going on they said they had no idea why it happened and I needed to set up a new account. They did that all for me and then said my new monthly bill was Ā£115/pm. I asked why it jumped up so much and they couldnāt give me an answer so I said forget it, jumped on the Monzo app and switched to Octopus straight away. Quote for Ā£37/pm much better. Thanks Monzo!
I was already with Octopus Energy before I joined Monzo.
If when my renewal comes through do you think going through Monzo would get me a better deal, as they would obviously try and give me their best deal as Iām already a customer with them? Or is this just for new customers moving to Octopus?
Has anyone ever heard of Green (not Green energy). 100% renewable electricity and they seem reasonably priced (based on my usage). Their app looks good too.
Looks ace. Id be tempted to try if I wasnāt already with Peopleās Energy fixed.
I can switch from next month and they show as cheapest for me on MSE. Now that is the sort of provider I would like to see
integrate with.
I might have to have a closer look, current exit fees Ā£40, but MSE saying Green is Ā£10 month cheaper than Peopleās!
Looks like the Oak tariff only just launched this morning. Iām a little cautious now after being burned by Outfox the Market.
What happened with outfox the market?
dont get me started F%&^%$ about Outfox the Market

Oh itās a long story but started back in Oct 2018. They put peopleās rates up four consecutive times and then wanted a 70/30 split for winter so it took avg bills from Ā£70 to Ā£180 per month. They basically had loans that need paying and decided to use their customers. Quite a lot of shady stuff like blocking people from switching away, changing Ts&Cās without telling customers, ignoring complaints and emails, blocking negative comments on social media, reporting one star reviews on TrustPilot. Many many more.
I personally had three cases against them using Ombudsman Services, and one ICO case pending about omitting evidence from my GDPR request.
They are 2nd cheapest on MSE so will avoid. Iāve had a better service from the Big 6 than smaller ones. I am on a 33 month fix with isupplyenergy about to end next month. Customer Service isnāt great but so far Iāve not had any billing issues.
Yeah prob best
The others things they did was block refunds at the time, taking people months / half a year to get their credit back.
Oh and I forgot they set up Direct Debits on ex-customers and then reinstated them multiple times without permission.
So many things
Ofgem are fucking useless.
Weāre with pure planet and havenāt had any issues as of yet
Weāve been with Octopus since March and have had no issues, other than an initial over-calculated amount to charge per month which was immediately resoled.
Iām not using a smart-meter with
but have a detailed spreadsheet which breaks everything down.
Still highly recommended at this stage.
Moving house soon so might be the perfect time to try and switch suppliers too
