Hi,
I post a cheque by 1st class signed for last Tuesday, it was marked as collected by Thursday.
When can I expect that Monzo will receive the cheque and clear it?
It will be a week tomorrow & I havenāt even had notification to say theyāve received it despite it being collected on the Thursday.
This is making me so anxious - I have an anxiety disorder. Itās not the hugest amount of money but I need & was hoping to take my kids away for a couple of days by the 20th.
Sorry, itās so long (years) since I posted a cheque to Monzo, I donāt even know if you get a notification or if the first thing you know is when it clears and is credited to your account.
I think most people on the forum who get cheques regularly would keep a second account with a legacy bank for that purpose - we do, to avoid this issue.
Sorry thatās not much help but maybe another forum user can advise. In theory they have another week at least (possibly more if the two weeks is from receipt of the cheque) but hopefully you see the money soon.
Iāve been strictly Monzo for some time and honestly this is only my second time dealing with a cheque. My first time was a few weeks ago but I was able to do the cheque imaging as it was only for Ā£3 so this is a bit different.
May have to look into opening a legacy account because every notification that pops up on my phone Iām hoping itās from Monzo.
Since you sent it first class signed for, have you had confirmation of delivery yet?
If not, itās still in Royal Mailās network. If itās not delivered by the 12th it would be considered lost and youāll have to make a claim with Royal Mail.
Itās a frustrating time of year. I posted all my Christmas cards out last Monday. 20% of them got lost, so Iām having to reprint and repost next week, which is very frustrating.
For future peace of mind for your anxiety though when posting a cheque, if you put it through as a large letter instead of a small one, you can opt for a fully tracked service, which can actually be cheaper if you donāt need signed for. Thatās what I do.
Yeah thatās what the staff member at the post office was saying they donāt do that size tracked only signed for. I know it was definitely collected from the PO BOX in Bilston on the Thursday (5th). I hope itās not lost, if you know what I had to do to even get that cheque (it was a long process).
I donāt even think Iāll risk trying to get another cheque if thatās the case Iāll ask them to cancel it and transfer to me if Iāve not had a notification by Thursday/Friday to say itās received.
Canāt believe after how many years Iāll actually be opening a legacy bank account, the only thing Iād keep Monzo for is the being paid a day early feature literally everything else I can get at another bank.
Iām mad at myself too because I didnāt put a return address, I was there telling myself nah itāll be fine
Well, hopefully it turns up! And if it doesnāt, I hope itās not too much hassle trying to get your money.
Going forward though, ask the post office clerk to put it through as a large letter (the prices are still the same because they charge according to the gram, not the size of the envelope) but it has more postage options, notably tracked services. Thatās how I send my Christmas cards tracked48. If the post office clerk wonāt do that, you can pre book the postage online. I know the anxiety feeling all too well!
Iāve called Royal London & asked them to cancel it and transfer it instead theyāve said it could take 7-10 working days so I guess at this point itās whoever gets there first. Either way Iām not impressed.
Why are you cancelling it? Youāre going to cause yourself more problems.
How?
Because itās taking forever and thereās been zero word at all.
Tomorrow is the 7th working day & nothing.
From a Monzo Help article:
āForeverā = Less than the time Monzo state.
I get that youāre stressed about it, but youāre not going to solve this any quicker with what youāre doing.
It takes up to 2 weeks for Monzo to give you an update on your cheque.
Youāre assuming it is lost and are now going down a different route, which appears to be longer. All you had to do was wait a little longer and youād know for certain.
Yeah no you clearly donāt if youāre going to sit there and lock me and I donāt really wish to speak to you after that.
As mentioned earlier it was a long process to even get the cheque to me itās been atleast a month no of going back and forth, when you consider normal banks would have had this done by now. Plus the time Iāve waited to actually receive it yes it feels like forever.
Now please I think you should just not speak to me anymore, Iām frustrated enough.
But the route Iām going down atleast guarantees the money canāt be lost & that is one less thing to worry about.
That is true
The article on the process and timings is here if you need to know for next time
Which has nothing to do with Monzo.
Your cheque has been delivered. Youāre now waiting for Monzo to tell you they have it, which they say can take 1-2 weeks, which it hasnāt been yet.
But now youāve cancelled it
I have no idea why this person is still trying to talk to me. None at all.
