I wonder if this is what it looks like when you don’t already have a DD set up?
Just got an email from Barclaycard:
“Your Barclaycard online servicing is being replaced on 19 August 2026
[…]
Before closing Barclaycard online servicing, we will be replacing it with an alternative way to access features you may currently use. This will be through Barclays Online Banking, a secure service you can access with a web browser.“
Wonder if they will fix the direct debit issue with this change?
Probably not. Though you can change to any bank via online portal, it’s just the app coding they didn’t bother to fix.
I called them today, they can’t even do it over the phone, but they can send out a paper mandate, and that’s apparently the only way to do it, and they’re aware of the problem.
I didn’t quite hear the full list but apparently the problem affects Chase, Lloyds, Monzo, and maybe one other. I figure they’re probably unable to ship their app, so bugs can’t be fixed.
So there’s your answer, the only way right now to set up Monzo as your direct debit is to either have an online account already, or call them to get a paper mandate posted to you.
I did ask if they could set me up an online account, and the answer was no because it was decommissioned in favor of the broken app they can’t ship. How modern.
