Yeah they have had this for a while in the US, I just like to keep things siloed.
They can’t unless you give them permission ![]()
I am like you though, prefer to keep all my bills/savings/spending separate.
Open banking is law now in the uk you don’t have e to take avenge if it but it douse open a lot more doors and it is toaltly secure form what I ready and seen.
I am aware. I choose not to.
And if you do give them permission you can see this with in the app and thye only get 90 days I think and they\n you a have to re give them permission. Some folks like this to use apps like Emma an yolt ect
you can also remove persmission anytime you want
They give you total control
Think you’re trusting this a bit too much. Once you’ve agreed to it you’re provided with the service but in the background they’re harvesting all of this data into their own systems to do with as they see fit. Once you’ve removed the permission, sure, access isn’t permitted but they’ve already extracted what they wanted,
This is also true I not saying I trust it but it is handy and convenient
Few reasons:
- Doesn’t have the same range of products (mortgage, cashback rewards, offers with other high street brands) as a mainstream bank like Barclays
- I have a Barclaycard which I can manage through my Barclays app which is handy
- Not sure Monzo reports to all the credit agencies… with my Barclays account (and Barclaycard) I’m sure that all my financial activity is reflected on my credit report.
- Lack of exclusivity like the Barclays Premier card (although the rewards with that are pretty rubbish and I’ve never used them)
Monzo is working on monzo Plus but we are yet to hear what feature or exclusive this will mean.
Monzo douse not report to all credit ref agency yet they this would be nice to see that they do report to all of them as this douse help credits in some case.
Thye do offer loans and overdrafts but not credit cards yet.
Monzo is in the most part still growing at this time and I for one look for would to seeing what they have in store.
I have only just join Monzo sloth I was with them when they very first started before they wore a bank.
I have put my wages in to monzo but I have nit closed my bank yet although all my DD and payments now come out of Monzo.
I nit sure but she people have said getting a mobile phone could be tricky with monzo as some don’t recognise it but I sure as they grow all issues will be sorted.
One think I would say is they is no perfect bank I mean no one bank have every think to please every one some but i think it depends on what a person what’s from a bank.
I was gearing up to go full Monzo again (third attempt). I put some money in my account and started spending a bit.
Was going to get a change of details form from work and start transferring my direct debits (don’t want to close the old account and partial switch seems to still be unavailable)…
- then I went into a BP garage on the way home from work to get a drink, a garage I’ve used Monzo in before. It came up in my transaction list as Shell…
This immediately made me think, ‘nah, I’ll stick with my old bank’.
I’ve reported it in-app. I think how long it takes them to fix it will determine whether I try full Monzo again.
Shell is eastbound, BP is westbound - in the same place. I used my card in BP. Pretty certain that they’re completely separate and not run by the same franchisee or anything. So it’s bizarre that this happened.
Could you share the bottom of the screenshot with the transaction reference? Intrigued to see whether its BP OR Shell.
- ‘EMSWORTH SF CONNECT EMSWORTH GBR’
The place is only a few years old and has always been a BP with an M&S shop. I’ll see if I can find a transaction from the Shell on the other side, although that’ll be a few months or years old.
Edit:
Found a transaction from the Shell garage on the other side (from September 2017 though), it’s:
- ‘Shell A27(T) Eastbound Emsworth GBR’
The map on that one is incorrect and shows somewhere random in a nearby town. The address is, ‘near’ somewhere.
This is a first
Each to their own though ![]()
I have gone full Monzo (wages in, bills out) but I can’t convince my partner to. Main reasons:
- No branch to discuss matters
- Paying in cheques - in a branch
- Worried employer will mess things up regarding switching accounts for wages. Employer is a behemoth - NHS. I have some concerns there too.
- Is worried about CASS going wrong. I’ve tried to explain but not interested
So looking at my Shell transactions they’re like this:
And my BP:
Just guessing here but looks like the BP might be a franchise using a PED that’s not in Monzo’s stored list (no one has ever sent a merchant correction for it) so the merchant data has been created using your GPS and the closest merchant to your location was the Shell.
If you exported the transaction to CSV then you can see what the GPS location recorded against the transaction was.
Good theory. But, I corrected it a long time ago, it used to show as M&S but I thought it was best to have it show as the petrol station part.
There was a discussion on here about it at the time. Probably a few years ago now.
Yeah. Maybe seems picky, but if you went to Sainsbury’s and used your traditional bank account’s debit card and it showed up on your statement as the Tesco over the road - that would be a huge issue.
That wouldn’t happen as traditional banks only show (a version of) the original transaction info. If you didn’t look, didn’t know or didn’t realise with Monzo you might end up logging a fraud report.
Also, (but most of all) I’m one of those people who likes everything to be correct and it bugs me.
What concerns do you have? If it’s CASS then it will automatically redirect. If they want to manually change it then contact HR as soon as the wage goes in for one month and they will have it sorted for the next. I know with the trust I work for this can be updated on HRPTS now, so you don’t even need to speak to the bored people in payroll
