Why *haven't* you gone full Monzo?

What is the purpose of the survey and why would I not tick all 3?

Also, just to be picky it is spelt cheque not check

Because Monzo is not developing mobile check deposit because no one is depositing checks to Monzo. People just use legacy accounts. Which means they are not full Monzo.

Again, what is the purpose of the survey though?

If people want cheque imaging they need to vote on the [topic here] (⏰ Cheque imaging) and not on a random survey hidden in an vaguely related topic.

Also, you have given no compelling reason for people not to tick all 3 options. Of course we’d like Monzo to do everything

Because voting on the check deposit pages does not indicate to Monzo the lack of the feature is a reason someone has not gone full Monzo.

Of course it does, just have a read in the topic… plus you’re missing the point entirely.

Monzo have stated that they monitor the feedback topic and number of votes as an indication of what people want. If you want to advocate cheque imaging then you’re doing it a disservice by getting people to vote here instead of in the feedback topic.

For me I have all my bill and benefits payed in to monzo but I still have my nationwide account I don’t think it’s wise to go full monzo yet and I personally think that you should have at least one more bank just in case an account gets frozen or some brink happened like fraud or some think so all ways wise to have a bank in stand by just in case. I have also head and read that they might be an issues with mobile phone contracts in getting one I not sure.

#FullMonzo does not mean not having a legacy bank account.

This is a huge bugbear of mine. It means using Monzo as your main account and considering it as your main account, i.e. getting your salary paid in and your bills paid out.

The full monzo badge requires a CASS switch, but even if you switch manually and keep your legacy bank account open, you are still full monzo, just without the badge.

No-one at Monzo has ever recommended only having one bank account. Always a good idea to have a backup. (Ideally one with Visa, one with MasterCard).

How can you pay your wages in quickly if it is paid by check?

In that instance, I would not consider that person to be full monzo, but that is not what you said and fortunately, being paid by cheque is mercifully rare.

Yeah in the UK it is.

You’re conflating a UK based discussion with US again. This isn’t helping your case.

Also the mobile cheque imaging limit is £500, so if you are that rare unlucky person who gets paid by cheque in the UK then you’ll be out of luck unless you are on £6k year paid monthly, or less than £26k if you’re paid weekly in cheques and you’re earning a cheque that’s bang on £500. The likelihood of either scenario is nil.

Essentially it’s useful for that odd refund from an archaic business or from your nan for your birthday.

Most people in the UK stopped getting paid in cheques about two decades ago before smart phones existed.

Basically getting your wage as a cheque and needing it paid in quick would be a US issue.

That is a crazy limit. You can deposit any amount in the US technically. I know schwab is over 10k

Then again checks are crazy archaic

It’s quite rare though to get a cheque above £500 (unless you are a business).

For the main Monzo demographic they are likely to have never owned a chequebook, see someone write one, or even seen one in person.

If you have a large cheque like an insurance claim you would walk into a branch or send it recorded.

Seems so different compared to USA where checks are very common.

Just to say I absolutely agree with this.

Primary bank does not mean only bank.

Our model has never, ever, ever been predicated on the idea that we’d be your only bank account. In fact, if you use one of our third-party Savings Pots, those funds are being held by other banks. You just don’t have to go through the headache of managing it directly.

This is where banking is going. This is what Open Banking allows for.

Consider this - what if the management of your Santander/First Direct/Starling/whoever account was actually a better experience through the Monzo app, with the power of Open Banking APIs? Perhaps you’d need to use their app for the odd more advanced irregular task, but the day-to-day was through Monzo?

That’s why we focus on UX.

I think I last wrote one around the millennium.

You would now have to ask to have a chequebook created for you as you don’t get them when you create bank accounts now.

The average age of a person who still uses a chequebook is 80. :older_woman: :older_man:

I wold rather my banks not share information. With each other.

It’s the law in the UK now. Of course, you don’t have to engage with it in any way, but it’s 100% where the industry is going.
