Any Whisky drinkers on here? I donāt drink it but want to buy one as a gift for around Ā£100. Any recommendations?
Highland Park 18 is pretty epic.
Eep, its gone up in price so much:
Thanks Iāll check it out. Pretty cool place you live!
I liked that whisky as well but she be a peaty one which is a very marmite whisky.
Also love that episode ![]()
Now this is a thread I can get behind!
TL;DR - With that budget you canāt go wrong, if itās a gift you could go basic such as Haig Club or a nice single malt. If you know if the person likes smoky/peaty ones or sweeter ones then look for west highland & island/speyside ones. Personal whiskey selection below.
Lets seeā¦
@hldn90 depends on if they like Peaty (typically West) or Sweet/Fruity (typically central and East).
Hereās whatās currently in my cupboardā¦
Strong, smoky, Peaty
Lagavulin - The 8 is nice, but £100 should get you the 16, super nice and my favorite
Laphroaig - Super nice, easily within budget, but also super smoky
Somewhere in the middle
Aerolite Lindsay - Really, really nice, a little less Peaty
Ileach (I suspect this is really Lagavulin in disguise) - Again, slight smoke, a little sweet
Sweet/Speyside
Glen Moray - Nice, a little sweet at times but goes well with chocolate!
Glenfiddich - A nice wee dram to be fair
Ardmore - Eh, ok, not my personal favourite
And the list goes onā¦
If the recipient likes a peaty whisky you cannot go wrong with Lagavulin 16:
Lagavulin 16 Year Old Islay Single Malt Scotch Whisky | 43% vol | 70cl | Smoky | Intense | Peat-Rich | Sweet & Salty Single Malt Whisky | with Gift Box | Aged in Oak Casks
PS. Itās Whiskey if itās a Scottish one!
EDIT: No itās not, itās the other way around! Thanks @Anarchist (I should have had more coffee when I wrote that!)
Umm
Great. I now feel the need to go buy whiskey at the weekend

Dalmore 18.
That is all
At the moment - my current dram of choice has been a new-ish distillery called Torabhaig on the Isle of Skye ![]()
I must admit I tried a Welsh Penderyn whisky a few months ago at Vom Fass in Stamford, and immediately bought a bottle. Absolutely fantastic whisky, and not very peaty. I canāt remember the specific one I had though, as the bottle didnāt last long between my neighbours and me⦠![]()
Iāll take a free bottle if youāre offering ![]()
I find Nikka is one of the most aggressive whiskies Iāve ever drunk.
Just logged in and seen all these replies - thank you so much. Who knew there were so many Whisky experts! Iāll check them all out. I donāt think anyone has said the same one twice, so that makes it all the more difficult. From memory, the recipient doesnāt mind it a little peaty, but I think he prefers one thatās more balancedā¦
After reading up on Torabhaig I have decided to do the same! Just bought one of each of the four legacy series bottles (the first was indeed significantly more expensive than the other threeā¦
) This has taken all of my birthday money, so once I have a bit more spare cash Iāll buy a second bottle of the Cnoc Na Mòine to open and enjoy.
Honestly, Iām sure unless you go for something particulary Peaty (Laphroaig/Islay) or Sweet (Speyside) I think itāll be fine. There are a load out there. My family know I like Whisky and donāt all know the type, so if I end up with a bottle of Jura, itās nice enough for me.
Its the thought that counts.
Bottles 2,3, and 4 of the Torabhaig legacy series are being delivered today (bottle 1 will take longer as it is coming from Germany) - I will find it very difficult not opening them to try, but that would defeat the whole purpose of buying the full set⦠![]()
I need to find someone else who has them so I can at least say Iāve tasted each! (Maybe a distillery tour?)
In case anyone interested, I did look through all these recommendations, thank you. In the end, I still didnāt really know what to go for (what a minefieldā¦), so went with one of the first recommendations, from @l33t and got the Highland Park 18. The recipient was very pleased.
It is pretty epic tbh.
