Whisky recommendations šŸ„ƒ

Any Whisky drinkers on here? I donā€™t drink it but want to buy one as a gift for around Ā£100. Any recommendations?

Not an alcohol consumer, but I wouldnā€™t be doing my island duty if I didnā€™t recommend this one:

Itā€™s very popular, and Iā€™m told very good. Starts at Ā£65.

I liked that whisky as well but she be a peaty one which is a very marmite whisky.
Also love that episode :+1:

Now this is a thread I can get behind!

TL;DR - With that budget you canā€™t go wrong, if itā€™s a gift you could go basic such as Haig Club or a nice single malt. If you know if the person likes smoky/peaty ones or sweeter ones then look for west highland & island/speyside ones. Personal whiskey selection below.

Lets seeā€¦

@hldn90 depends on if they like Peaty (typically West) or Sweet/Fruity (typically central and East).

Hereā€™s whatā€™s currently in my cupboardā€¦

Strong, smoky, Peaty

Lagavulin - The 8 is nice, but Ā£100 should get you the 16, super nice and my favorite
Laphroaig - Super nice, easily within budget, but also super smoky

Somewhere in the middle
Aerolite Lindsay - Really, really nice, a little less Peaty
Ileach (I suspect this is really Lagavulin in disguise) - Again, slight smoke, a little sweet

Sweet/Speyside
Glen Moray - Nice, a little sweet at times but goes well with chocolate!
Glenfiddich - A nice wee dram to be fair
Ardmore - Eh, ok, not my personal favourite

And the list goes onā€¦

If the recipient likes a peaty whisky you cannot go wrong with Lagavulin 16:
Lagavulin 16 Year Old Islay Single Malt Scotch Whisky | 43% vol | 70cl | Smoky | Intense | Peat-Rich | Sweet & Salty Single Malt Whisky | with Gift Box | Aged in Oak Casks

PS. Itā€™s Whiskey if itā€™s a Scottish one!

EDIT: No itā€™s not, itā€™s the other way around! Thanks @Anarchist (I should have had more coffee when I wrote that!)

Just a heads up - unless you KNOW they like a peaty whisky, do not get them a peaty one! :joy:

I do not like a peated whisky at all!

Cragganmore or Glenlivet are some nice, non-peaty, smooth choices too.

For my friends when Iā€™m buying them Whisky, I deliberately avoid the Scottish Whiskies (sorry all), and tend to get something different, whether thatā€™s a nice Japanese Whisky or even a Welsh Penderyn whisky.

Ultimately, youā€™ll know the person more - but if theyā€™re a whisky person, try going something more different which they may not have had - or look to get them a whisky tasting set from Drinks by the Dram or something, to help them pick their favourite, then note it for next time

Dalmore 18.

That is all

At the moment - my current dram of choice has been a new-ish distillery called Torabhaig on the Isle of Skye :scotland:

I must admit I tried a Welsh Penderyn whisky a few months ago at Vom Fass in Stamford, and immediately bought a bottle. Absolutely fantastic whisky, and not very peaty. I canā€™t remember the specific one I had though, as the bottle didnā€™t last long between my neighbours and meā€¦

An alternative I can offer - which is super limited edition, is a release of Ncā€™nean whisky that my sister worked with them on making a one-off release as well. :stuck_out_tongue: So I have a bottle or two of that spare if you want something randomly-special (Made by some random guyā€™s sister on the Monzo Community).

Iā€™ll take a free bottle if youā€™re offering

Sure, delivery is Ā£100.

Iā€™m quite partial to Nikka from the Barrel

I find Nikka is one of the most aggressive whiskies Iā€™ve ever drunk.
