What's the Last Bit of Tech You Bought?

Has @WhyAydan been online since you asked?

He’s probably had a couple!

I’m sure he has, probably a shelf full of Apple Vision Pro headsets too… :slightly_smiling_face:

I did expect a reply from him, must be busy!

You’ve let me down there.

I think I’ll give it a miss. Will see what Quest 4 offers in the future.

PS5 Pro and MacBook Pro M4 will just have to satisfy my tech obsession for November. It’s a hard life!

How is your 3D printing going?

As long as you enjoy it. It’s not something that appeals to me.

It’s good that some people are paying you for stuff.

We got one for the kids last Christmas with a pretty great cashback stack offer.

Its my favourite of the VR’s I have tried, the PSVR 2 has oled which is nice but they really missed a trick by not getting rid of the cable, it also has a games issue where the quest is aping them on releases although it does have better graphics over the Q3 standalone. The Q3 wirelessly linked to the PC does give it the edge though, Half Life Alyx is still the gold standard although the PSVR2 can link to the PC now in usual sony way its a bit of a PITA to setup and has issues.

The Q3 is very good, the take games with you approach and the amount of games is quite good, it has a Meta+ sub which is a bit like Game Pass for VR. The controllers work well, really well although they do like batteries. The hand recognition stuff is getting a lot better, it has improved drasticly since we got it.

The Q3 also has mixed reality, I wish the outward cameras were better quality but it works with the room scanning quite well with a demo game on it where little alien things break through walls.

Also the Q3 has an app called Big Screen which basically allows anyone to host a 15 person room where people tend to place movies on a virtual cinema and if they are 4k it looks quite good. Quite a few are AI 3D and the quality is a bit variable but some work really well.
There is a Plex app (not official) and that works well with my plex server giving a huge screen although I do miss it not having oled panels a bit.

The Q3 also added support for apples spacial videos (no apple tv content yet though) so if you record on your 15+ you can see them on the Q3.

The only issue with VR in general is that it can be a bit tiring as its can be much more physically involved. I happened to play one of the q3 meta+ games for Nov last night and one if them was a simple puzzle game in MR aligning blocks, I ended up nearly completing it as it was very chilled out.

Any questions about the q3?

There are quest games you buy and they are dual play on pc which also lets you do the rendering on pc to deliver to the q3.

That’s a pretty detailed review. Thanks.

I was comparing it to the PSVR2, I’m a big PS fan in general but the fact it’s limited to just PS stuff is pushing me more towards the Quest 3.

The PC link features of Quest sound interesting, I’ll need to check if they will also work on Mac.

We had a PSVR1 and it was good for the time but I really really think sony missed a trick not having a wireless adapter, its so noticable having the cable.

I would see what offers they have on for BF, we got a huge q3 discount by stacking with House of Fraser (who resold from Game) last year which make it much more of an option.

I dont see sony allowing plex/big screen on the PSVR and I saw an article where dev’s said its a bit of a nightmare getting games onto the PSVR2. I also think they borked up by telling people you would lose all your PSVR 1 games with the upgrade as well.

Steam has a lot of VR as well which works on the Q3 well.

I do see AR being much more of a thing in 10 years time, just having floating screens around you is pretty great. Meta is certainly ploughing far far more resources into it, the q3 firmware upgrades have really improved things over the past year.

There is also the Q3S now which is mainly to replace the Q2 as a cheaper version. In terms of units there are a lot of Quests out there. I wouldnt go for the Q2, it was good at the time but its a fair bit more limited now.

EDIT: I think the new Batman game is coming with the Quest 3/S this year and its getting decent reviews, games are not badly priced, that new game is £38 I think but you get 20% off offers as Meta+ subs.

That is putting me off a little too.

Thanks!

I’m only two days in - but I whole heartedly agree. I was paying £3.99 a month for PitPat, so there’s actually very little price difference over the two years!

Let us know how it goes :crossed_fingers: I’m in the market for a AM5 CPU and motherboard, just holding out for Black Friday before deciding on where to buy.

Welcome to the filament hoarding collecting!

I just had a quick count of mine, I have about 60 spools in various states of use…

Ooh they are lovely. You should check out Filamentum too - they have some great unqiue colours.

PLA Extrafill "Wizard's Voodoo" – Fillamentum.com is a go to favourite of mine.

Also a great source of many many wild and wonderful supplies. Sorry.

Accidentally bought a new camera a Panasonic S5 II with 20-60mm lens, however had to do a deal with the wife, so my Fuji X100 has been sold to the local camera dealer.,…
