It’s not a file as such. It generates the text which is a comma deliminated CSV so you can copy it and then paste it into the import box of Bitwarden.
It looks like this:

Oh right!
Never tried it
cheers
No worries
Guide is here if you wanted it: https://bitwarden.com/help/article/import-from-lastpass/
To be fair I just looked on the Pricing page, and saw a couple of things that LastPass doesn’t / I don’t think last pass do well - like credit card management.
Did you find myki buggy at all?
To start with but on last use no
Edit: Oh wait actually, one bug which was annoying(for some reason happens in 1Password too) i’d occasionally have to leave the screen that shows your 2fa code and go back to it again to get one that is actually up to date.
However this issue isn’t an issue if you let them populate the 2fa codes for you
I can echo everything you’ve said. We use LastPass for work due to the password sharing in the corporate environment, and it’s awful to use for the reasons that you outline.
1Password is far nicer. I use it on Android too where it works well. My main gripe is trying to fill in a form and find it won’t fill in the password or show up as there’s been an app update, and the 1Password app needs to be launched to do the update of the local storage first and then it starts working again.
Followed those directions and it downloaded a csv file which contained all my login details.
A simple ‘de’lete’ of this file still leaves it on your hard drive.
Extreme to recover, I know, but a flaw all the same.
Think I have overcome its rescue though.
Oh wow, that’s odd It didn’t download anything for me. I saw it all as text in the browser just like the screenshot I posted, which was taken from their guide too.
I am on a MacBook
Ohhh maybe that’s it. I was using Chrome on my Windows machine. Guess they were when they wrote that guide too.
Unfortunately the ‘Secure Empty Trash’ option was removed some years ago as it apparently did not always work with SSD drives (I don’t know why). But you can relatively easily do a ‘manual’ secure delete using the Terminal:
I have read that due to the way SSDs work. Deleting it once is as good as secure delete. Doesn’t work in the same way as traditional HDD that writes it loads of times. And trying to do that on an SSD can do more damage than good!
Cheers both.
The way I got round it was changing the file from .csv to .txt, delete all the text, save that file, then delete it.
Even if later recovered, it would be blank.
Bitwarden is annoying me now.
I have so many SSH credentials saved and in bitwarden they all get stored as notes. Therefore I have to search, click into and then manually highlight the password before I can copy and paste it.
In LastPass they were saved as an ‘SSH’ type so I could copy the password with a click.
Think I might migrate and give 1Password a go this evening - I really hope I don’t end up going full circle back to LastPass
I am just getting used to BitWarden now.
Still can’t get either of them to work within apps on my mobile, so looks like neither any good there.
Undecided which I prefer at this time.
Ask them the question on Twitter?
Pretty sure it’s @1Password
I couldn’t at first. Upon Googling, I found that you need to enable the ‘auto-fill accessibility service’ as well as the ‘auto-fill service’.
Give that a try if you haven’t already
I tried to reach out to them on their website using live chat but it just says “Our agents are not available right now. Please leave a message and we’ll get back to you.”
I guess it’s a different timezone, so will give Twitter or Messenger a go
They also have a support forum:
