What are Coop dividend points?

Hi all. I’m a Coop member as they are one of the shops close to my school. I’ve noticed that you also get dividend points along with the normal points that you can redeem for items.

What do these points actually do? I have nine last time I checked, and reading up on it it says that I get a share of the Coops profits, but then also looking it doesn’t appear to be the case.

Can someone help me with what these dividend points actually do?

Co-op is member-owned, and as a member, you get dividend points.
Actual dividend payouts only happen when members vote to grant themselves a payout during their Annual General Meetings.
