We're working on a new look for the Monzo app

I’d like this… I want Left to Spend visible as much as possible, but I find it really difficult to land the mid-point. I don’t ever feel like I need the entire screen for scrolling transactions.

The alternative I had in mind was some kind of tap, maybe as the top of the panel, that would quickly return it to the mid point.

Also, delayed +1 for this!

Fairrrrrr. I take your point re being able to swipe, but not that much on knowing what you’re looking at tbh, given you now have that in writing at the top also.

Interested to see what happens going forward then :ok_hand: re the new getting to accounts interaction too as imagine that will affect feeling about this also.

Discloser: We’re not working on Summary, and didn’t change anything there. I also didn’t work on the initial Summary team, so don’t have fully context on this.

Here’s what I think it’s happening:

  • You have a balance of £13.9, this is all you can spend
  • You don’t have any committed spending until the end of the month

This means your left to spend is the same as your balance. If you had a subscription or direct debit in the next 3 days that money would be deducted from your Left to Spend.

  • You know that you have an upcoming payment of £11.99
  • You expected this amount to be deducted from your Left to Spend

We only automatically categorise payments in your Committed Spending if it’s a direct debit (maybe scheduled bank transfers too?). So this payment you’re talking about might be a recurring card payment (ie a subscription like Netflix or Spotify). We have no visibility of these upcoming payments, just your previous ones (and you could have cancelled them etc). If you want to add this subscription to your Committed Spending, open the same transaction from last month, and enable “set as subscription”. This way it will be added as committed spending, and that’s then deducted from your Left to Spend.

  • The app is telling you “you’re set to have £11 left over”

I think this is based on spending pattern/velocity. So it’s expecting you’re only going to spend ~£2 in the next 3 days. This is where my knowledge is a bit patchy on this so I might be wrong. Of course that since we don’t know about your payment subscription, that’s not considered in this number.

I hope this helps. For more Summary discussions please post in the relevant threads, this is just about the new navigaiton.

Yes it will be my 1st Netflix payment coming out this month, I will then set this to a Subscription so will go into Committed Spending for next month

I don’t think this is a problem… not sure what’s the benefit of having “£0.00” spent today in the feed, if you didn’t spend anything. Just adds noise.

Nothing in the works right now. When viewing a Pot there’s less space around the balance for a progress bar, because you also have the card showing behind the Pot. We’ve got some feedback about having something a bit more visual other than just the progress in text form, so we might explore it later. Btw you’re seeing the pot progress in text, right? If not just update to the latest version.

No plans for now. We need to deliver the new navigation first. Keep in mind this also didn’t exist in the old navigation. On a side note, even though Android has Pot history, it’s a bit of a messy experience right now, and also needs revisiting.

Yeah I’d love dark mode! September is ages away so anything can happen, but nobody is working on this so we might need to wait a bit longer for dark mode :man_shrugging:

It actually did this for a few releases but was removed…

If only you could swipe horizontally on the transaction feed to change the account …

Great suggestions!

Thanks! And now @bruno is online he can have a look at them

In app chat on latest Android beta is saying ‘you’re talking to monzo team’ instead of the COps name.

This was for 2 different agents.

Thank you for the reply, very much appreciated. I see what you’re saying about noise created from £0.00 but Monzo helps people budget better in my opinion and with the no spend challenge that was on a blog recently, it would help for when somebody doesn’t spend anything on that day, just my opinion on it. I think it would be a nice touch.

Yes I can see the % progress on the pots, fair enough.

I know September is ages away, that’s why I’m mentioning now so somebody has time to develop dark mode, fingers crossed anyway!.

I’m using an iPhone X, and with that level of vertical height I think the mid point as the maximum drawer height is good - especially if the condensed transaction feed does get made. Not sure how users of smaller phones feel.

Personally, I find the fully expanded drawer really useful for looking at my transactions. However, the account balance really needs to be visible when you’re viewing the fully expanded drawer.

I’ve been using the new design for a few days now and like it overall but I have two issues I still can’t get past:

  • if you don’t use budgets, it would be nice to get rid of the “left to spend” counter on the main screen.
  • I have 10 or 11 pots. I like to be able to tap on my picture to see the pots, but I feel like tapping it again should take me back to the main screen I came from. Instead, when displaying the table/list view of pots, tapping on my picture takes me to settings, just like the settings button next to it.

I like having It the way it currently functions.

I used the new layout ages ago, and I dropped out of the test as it wasn’t usable, I couldn’t find transactions between my personal and joint account, however the improvement is massive!

First thoughts: swipe to change account, dark mode, the option to fully disable budgets and a user guide for the new layout, as I’ve had to find everything from scratch

:apple: iOS 12.4

Monzo 2.57 :bug:

Not sure if this is a general bug or relating to new nav version.

Bought something this evening and got the notification immediately, but it didn’t show in my feed. I tried updating the feed in the app by pulling the card, and it said “updating” but then as you can see in first screenshot it just says “updated 7 hours ago”. Tried jumping round the app to see if updated but it didn’t. This was about 1.5 hours after the purchase.
I force quit the app and on reload it has now updated the feed (second screenshot showing it has just updated).

Anyone else getting an error flashing up when swiping between personal and joint?
