Not sure if this relates to the new nav or not but I’ve noticed I can exclude some of my DDs from summary and others I cannot even when they are similar purpose DDs i.e. credit card payments. latest iOS and latest App v
Picked up a bug this morning, when hitting a notification to come into the app, it just stops the app and it freezes on the transaction page, no buttons on the screen respond, so you can’t go back or hit view all to escape the transaction page. Only way back is to force quit the app.
iOS 12.3.1 on iPhone XR
Monzo 2.53.0 #536
I think if its repeating it won’t have the option to exclude, cause exclusions are meant to be used for “that one large transaction that you don’t usually make” etc. My credit card payments allow me to exclude, but I pay as I go with that, not monthly (do you have the option “repeating payment” selected in the summary option?).
Fair enough if it was consistent but I am seeing I can exclude some and not others which are very similar in nature
You are right. Thanks for the tip! One of them had been auto recognised as repeating but the other had not. I assumed it was known they were both repeating because they’ve both been around for a number of months. Switched both to repeating and the exclude from summary option goes (upon force quit).
I can’t see the new design in Labs. I think I remember someone saying at Investival there is a delay if you have a joint account too (I do)…can anyone confirm?
Yep, if you have a JA (I do as well), then it’ll come later on (earliest July 8th but not a set date)
Hey Bruno. Great work on the redesign so far.
This comment worries me a little though. It sounds like you’re saying no to a customer request because of back-end techy considerations (summary applies across the app). Customer considerations should come first.
It’s reminiscent of the thinking I see so regularly in legacies. “The techies built it this way last time so we’ll stick with that cos it would be too much bother to change right now”. “We’ll go back and sort it in the future”. That future never comes as the next pressured project arrives, and the next… Please don’t let this be the beginning of layering up complexity between new, new new, old etc. It’ll only get worse.
Maybe i’m getting the wrong end of the stick so do correct me where I am wrong
I think you have the wrong end of the stick. I don’t think it’s a technical problem, but simply an organisational problem. The app is being reorganised to stop ‘account switching’ to being a thing, and make it so the bottoms nav items are universal and other bits and bobs. So it doesn’t make organisational and UX sense to have a tab at the bottom that applies to one account. I believe this is the problem. They are not ignoring the need for summary, just working out a better way of doing it that fits with the new organisational structure of the app.
Hey guys,
I’m currently running Monzo 2.54.0 beta on iOS 12.3.1, I’m looking to use the new layout but I cannot for the life of me workout how to apply it.
I’ve checked in Monzo labs and no luck. Can anyone help?
Do you have a joint account?
Yes
It is coming around the 8th July for those with a joint account.
7 days and counting…
Also prepared to hear the news that it’s not yet ready at that time - a ‘hope for the best and plan for the worst’ sitch.
I decided to stick with the new nav layout despite losing Summary just to see how it affected me. After several days I can confess that I really miss Summary - a lot - and can’t wait for its return. But I’ll not switch back to standard nav yet. As and when I need summary, I’m using MrsW’s phone - who is still on standard nav - to access the JA Summary information
Like the cleanness of it. Looking forward to ‘Summary’ changes coming in.
My gripe though is that it is way too white.
Dark mode on the horizon or maybe introduce a bit of grey like you had before?
Haha me too. Although they have covered themselves by saying “around that date could be longer” or words to that effect ![]()
I’ve had this as well, albeit only once. iPhone X on iOS 12.3.1, v. 2.53.0.
Steps involved:
- Monzo app on ‘View All’ tab
- app minimised to background and phone locked
- Card transaction notification received about 30 mins after phone locked
- select notification and unlock phone
- app loads to transaction info screen
- all functionality disabled - unable to categorise, add notes, etc.
- force close app to recover functionality
Screengrab of the freeze below - interestingly this shows ‘View All’ navigation which doesn’t usually appear when on a transaction details screen

Apologies I don’t think my previous message was well articulated.
This hasn’t anything to do with how things are working in the backend (although there’s complexity there too). If you browse through your app using the new navigation, and you’re flicking through your accounts, your pots, your external cards, etc… Then you want to know how much money you’ve got and decide to open your Summary from the tab bar. At that point what information shows in Summary? Do you expect that Summary shows only the information related to the account you were viewing in the Home screen? What if it was your Amex? External cards don’t have budgets. This doesn’t work because users expect the tab bar to be the top level navigation, and doesn’t make much sense that the contents of a tab bar page depend on what’s selected on another tab bar page.
I’m not saying this is going to be delayed… But just to make it super clear: any changes we made when I wrote that message wouldn’t make it to all customers on the Stores before the 8th July - just from how the release process works (see below). It was to make sure you didn’t expect it before then, but doesn’t mean it would arrive that day! Maybe there’s a hint in this message
I guess we’ll have to wait a few more days ![]()
Awww I just checked the app store and there was an update!
I got excited but it wasn’t the new layout
