I was just a pre-paid user, but signed up late enough to that I had done all the ID checks, and when I migrated there were no additional checks.
Only if the ID you used has expired between then and now.
Ah, good. Thanks.
Though that’s a bit daft. Mine haven’t expired but even if they had, it’s somewhat unlikely that my identity would have irrevocably changed!
True enough but given the lack of face-to-face contact I suspect they need to know you’re still in control of the account.
Me and a friend had to go through the verification process again. Thought it was a bit odd but didn’t really mind.
Very glad to see the new current account arriving and making the transition. Unfortunately the prepaid card is going. I still wanted to have the prepaid card as a second card to limit loss. Don’t trust using a debit card for small transactions in certain public places. I’ll go back tonusimg my Smile CC for those transactions for the time being. Great job. Enjoying the service. What’s the worry if a quick chat to Monzo support will reverse the fraudulent transactions?
You can use the current account debit card the exact same way as the pre-paid card - just top up the account with the spending money. It’s no less secure than the PP card wood have been if you don’t trust the places you’re using it. You’re not required to use the account as your only current account and move your salary/direct debits etc to it.
Ultimately it’s up to you @anon29409458 but in my experience with Monzo they are brilliant in support and giving you back money quickly if you report something not quite right. I was charged twice by a retailer recently but had visited the shop only once. Reported to Monzo via In-app chat and got money back before COop sent a reply to my message.
Even if your ID has t changed or expired, you might have to go through the ID process again, @realnickperry. My ID hadn’t expired, but after ~12hrs of verifying, I got a message that what I’d submitted for the preview CA had too much reflection or wasn’t legible. So I had to re-submit my photo and video. Account was activated shortly after. When I queried support as to why the original ID submission was good enough for the preview CA but not this release, they said that they are using “slightly different identity verification” for the release CA.
I would assume that worst case you could end up with 24–48 hours for identity verification.
Just asking a question to strike through the tips and tricks, how long until current accounts will be available to everyone straight away?
I believe that all existing users will be offered to migrate by end of November. That should open the doors for anyone in the queue from beginning of December.
Anyone else notice that the MasterCard logo in the app is actually their old one from pre-2016? Small things, but I notice them.

Interesting, Android version has the latest one.
Yes, it has been commented on somewhere although I can’t remember where at the minute.
Hi I’m hoping someone can clear some things up for me please. I have used the pre pay card for some time but have now signed up to the current account and received my debit card and account number. I have also followed the instructions and merged the 2 accounts. What I would like to know is:
- Can I still use my pre pay card (or do I just cut it up and throw it away)
- Which is the correct app (The blue monzo app or the white monzo bank app).
Thanks in advance.
- Just use the debit card from now on. I believe the pre-paid is no longer active.
- Use the blue app
Correct - activating the current account card permanently deactivates the prepaid card and the main Monzo app from the App Store or Play Store is the one to use - the white background testing app was only ever intended as a stop gap and will soon expire
Except for weird transactions like TfL presentments and refunds ![]()
Thanks for the replies guys, makes things clear. Shame really, as the prepaid card was really useful, used it a lot, especially when travelling.
