Upcoming Direct Debits now showing in Home Feed!

Okay, that’s good. I haven’t had that experience with Monzo (and only with Tesco due to moving monies about). Think it would still be useful to know when things are coming out in advance.

So I just had a notification in my feed for an upcoming DD, great.
Thing is this is for a PayPal payment, one of those pay after you get the item type of things.
This is even better than a regular monthly DD as the PayPal one can really catch you out.

I do think however, once monzo knows about said DD it should adjust the summary page, which it does not seem to be doing at the moment.

When it ‘leaked’ a couple of weeks ago, that’s exactly what it did. I’d be surprised if that had changed but won’t be able to test it until about the 23rd of the month .

The direct debits I had showing yesterday for today didn’t reflect in Summary and same for the one today which will be taken tomorrow

I am surprised then since it seemed to be working before. I guess the summary is updated when the money’s taken then?

It seems a shame not to see the correction as soon as they know about it.

I have a DD showing for tomorrow but this isnt reflected in summary. However it is a first payment. I will then mark it as a recurring payment and this will show in committed spending which should reflect in summary going forward.

Yeah it seems to be updated as soon as they are properly taken. Like you guys I’d rather they were reflected in Summary as soon as Monzo knows about them. @anon41842569 any reason for the change?

Summary should be replacing predicted Direct Debits with the real details as soon as we know about them (the same time as the upcoming transaction shows up in your feed).

It’s odd that that doesn’t seem to be working.

Few questions for those seeing a mismatch:

  • Are these for Direct Debits that aren’t currently being predicted as Committed Spending (PayPal, Amex, something you’ve turned predictions off for)?
  • Are these initial payments?

It might be that Summary is only listening to these Direct Debit events if they match against a prediction it has already made (a one-off paypal payment isn’t really ‘committed spending’)

Cheers!

@anon41842569 mine is a first payment which I think i the issue.

I’m just thinking - all these direct debits for me are being taken for the first time - Would that mean they are not yet set to recurring payment? Which would explain it

Yeah, once they have been taken once they set to reccurring payments. I’ll have to wait for weeks now :man_shrugging: :eyes:

I have no idea what’s going on with my Giffgaff payment. It goes out on the last day of the month, and has been fine before - but now thst payments been taken (as usual on the last day) but the app hasn’t recognised it in summary. It seems to be permanently stuck in the Tomorrow part of Commited Spending but doesn’t show in the normal feed with this update.

I’m not sure how much more committed to this transaction I can be, it’s happening tomorrow!?
It’s not a recurring I’ll give you that but monzo knows ‘x’ amount is leaving my account tomorrow but the summary does not reflect it.

Hey, is this a card payment rather than a Direct Debit? If so, and the amount or date has fluctuated over a certain amount, our system won’t have matched the transaction with your regular subscription, so doesn’t know to remove the prediction. In these cases, the un-matched prediction will be removed around ~3 days after it was initially predicted.

hope this helps!

Fair point! The intention of Committed Spending within Summary is for the regular (mostly monthly) fixed costs. One off purchases that happen to go via Direct Debit don’t feel like they make sense in that section.

That being said, ‘Left to Spend’ should probably take tomorrow’s transactions into account if we already know about them. Something for us to think about, for sure.

Yeah it’s a card payment. Comes out on the 30th or the 31st. I’ve got 3 predictions for Giffgaff now though :joy:

1 for the correct payment on the 31st and two pending for ‘tomorrow’. I think I might try disabling all the toggles for recurring and just enable it on the most recent payment. (Edit: this fixes it).

And moneybox still flits between Bills and Finance even though once it is debited it reverts to finance :man_shrugging:

Also a possible bug: the pending committed payments in Summary don’t grey out unless you tap a payment that has already been taken on Android.

I wasn’t too bothered either way about having upcoming Direct Debits in the transactions list when I first heard they were coming. However, now I’ve seen it for the first time today - yep, I quite like it
