Unknown account created with my mobile number

I don’t have a Monzo account but have received an sms saying “You’re in an unarranged overdraft. Please add money to your account to avoid payments bouncing.”.
Out of curiosity, I decided to download the Monzo app and see if I could find out more information.
I used the “Forgotten email/username” option, received a confirmation code, when they displayed an email address I’ve never heard of.
I fear I’ve been a victim of idnetify theft, and don’t know if my name and/or address have been used to set up an account.
Ive only had this new mobile number since the beginning of the month, so could also be leftovers from the previous owner of it.
I’ve emailed help@monzo.com to find out more but would anyone have any other advice?

Emailing us is absolutely the best course of action. A member of the team will get back to you as soon as they possibly can with an official response.

Unofficially; if you’ve only had the number since the start of the month, it’s quite possible it’s belonged to someone in the past who may have just not updated it following their release of the phone number. Never the less, please wait to hear back from our email team who’ll share accurate guidance :+1:

Thanks Graeme :slight_smile: I did also call your team today: they just need a photo of me holding my passport so they can check the information on their side.
I also checked my credit reports and nothing under my name, so fingers crossed :slight_smile:
