Transfer Limit not allowed to be raised

As a day one investor I’ve been very supportive of Monzo, today I lost all that trust, I live in the UK as a UK tax payer and spend a lot of my time abroad. I am domiciled UK but today Monzo refused to raise my transfer amount because I’m buying a car with my money

Don’t see how or why the word “investors” needed to be mentioned by hey ho.

Your profile informs you live in Cyprus. Are you trying to buy a car in Cyprus?

Being an investor doesn’t entitle you to special privileges.

There’s a process to follow to increase your bank transfer limit.

Are you a U.K. resident? Your profile suggests that you are not.

Your aware you have to be UK resident to have a monzo account?

If you live in Cyprus I’m pretty sure you aren’t supposed to have a Monzo account…

Guys, c’mon.

They haven’t visited the forum for 3 years. The statement that they live in the UK in their post is likely to be the more accurate and up to date information on their domiciliary status than the 3 year old information on their profile page.

Domiciled in the U.K. does not mean U.K. resident. They haven’t said if they are a resident in the U.K., it’s a valid question.

Domiciled:
You will generally be domiciled in the country where you consider your ‘roots’ are, or the country which you consider is your long-term, permanent home . Domicile is not the same as nationality, citizenship or residence. Every individual has a domicile, which they originally acquire at birth.

Absolutely could still be retired and living in Cyprus.

It’s a question of how much. I’m sure the OP will be able to answer it but the post is not conclusive on residency.

I’m fairly sure that’s not the reason.

Did you follow the flow in the app? Did Monzo give a reason?

Monzo might not be confident with the information you provided on request via the increase limit flow.

If you didn’t use that flow, then maybe try that.

There’s a lot of scams about and people are losing a lot of money, monzo would be your first port of call if it was a scam.

Just try again, and if no dice, raise a formal complaint.

While yes it is your money (I hate the “stopping me spending my money” spiel because they are just protecting you), they have a duty of care to ensure you don’t lose any money.

You also need to make sure the funds are readily available in your current account ready to send.

Likely Monzo asked for documents i.e an invoice from a car dealership, and got a document that either doesn’t satisfy their needs or is in a foreign language

Sure, but it follows on from a statement that would (to me) suggest not enough to be considered not living here.

They claim to be a UK resident in their post, so it’s absurd to me that most of the responses are pulling from old (possibly outdated) info on their profile to call that statement into question whilst outright ignoring it.

It’s asking a question they’ve already answered in their post. Just looks like pretty hostile karma farming reception to me.

This is a better question, but it’s not one anyone actually asked until this reply:

Didn’t post as a reply to you initially, so reposting.

Edit: still didn’t… discourse is broken. This is meant as a reply to @breville_monkey, not you @jonj1

They don’t though . If they did I wouldn’t ask.

It’s not a bad thing to not be a U.K. resident, ‘not a U.K. resident’ describes 99.2% of the world’s population.

It would shed light on why they weren’t successful in a limit raise request.

Is the dealership in Cyprus taking a UK bank transfer? If the dealership isn’t in Cyprus why even mention that? They won’t have declined it because of that, if they had a problem with it you’d probably get exited with 60 day notice

Monzo should’ve given you a reason on their chat to why your limit increase request was denied

8/10  thread.

But seriously be good to understand the reasons why it happened and if you managed to get it resolved.
