Mine wasn’t such a question or intended as described
It was a sincere question, asking if a vehicle was being purchased overseas. It was a question to extract more information given the very little context and/or background given by the OP in the initial complaint post by the OP.
Subsequent sincere question - if visiting here for help & advice, why has there been no further engagement to clarify the situation?
We’re here (as users/experienced members) to help as much as we possibly can but we simply need more information and feedback in order to attempt to help.
I don’t think they were. It’s not even in the help section. And there’s no question in the post. I think they just wanted to share their experience, the opinions it’s left them with, and vent.
It may seem extreme (commonly asked customers for the VIN on motor and on documentation) but it’s to ensure the sale is legitimate.
Came across a few cases people had purchased stolen cars and nothing the bank could do, it becomes civil as soon as the money is gone.
Same goes for log book, MOT history compared to what’s available online, mechanic checks, colour, alsorts of questions to prompt the customer to see if they are being truthful.
Customers could also be lying and they’re actually being scammed by some fraudsters on another line, or been told what to tell the bank to get the transfer through.
Few and far between, and again some extreme, but if it’s unusual activity and banks have concerns, it’s their job to make sure you don’t suffer financial loss.
If they don’t feel confident in the information you provide, they can reject the payment being processed, but you’re free to send to another of your accounts and attempt there.
I have seen anecdotal claims that banks have even gone to the lengths of preventing a customer from withdrawing large sums to another account - even if in their own name - or withdrawing large sums of cash, if they remotely suspect it is part of a scam.
It can be really difficult to spend your own money nowadays!
