Ep 3 so good!

Loving the second hotel room scene of Freddy obvs, and the fake Welsh ladies one was hilarious.

Damn! This round table :flushed:

The thing that sent me this episode was Jake writing ā€˜Armania’ on the board.

It seems that, after 2 challenges/episode 3

One of the main changes this year (that I like) is the challenges being designed to cause more drama and conflict with the contestants. Previous series, the only really ā€˜drama’ was if someone went off to grab a shield whereas this season it looks like the ā€˜shield’ is setup for bigger groups that you’re either in or out, to try and get the traitors to sabotage. I like this change as it should also help the faithfuls try and work out who are the traitors are if they’re clever enough to work it out (which then also helps with the announced change to the final where they wont be told if people were faithful or a traitor during the last rounds).

So, episode 3 - I suspect the producers really though this would force the traitors to try and get as many people out of the boat to have as many possible options to murder.

Also, I thought around the table the ā€˜raft people’ made a bit of a boo-boo (not that it mattered in the end) in going after each other. At that point, their greatest chance of survival would’ve been to make sure none of them were banished that round to ā€˜dilute’ their chance of being murdered that night.

Oh - and the ā€˜twist’ at the end with the ā€˜rail replacement carriage’. Unless they do something completely unexpected with that next episode it’s probably the weakest shock of the series…

Here’s an idea for the next series - would it work if we also didn’t know who the traitors were? Is too much of the fun knowing who they are and watching them trying to scheme and survive. Would the much greater impact of the round table banishments that we’d have if we didn’t know in advance make up for it? Especially if they ramped up the traitors having to sabotage the challenges to make sure the faithful stay in harms way for murdering so you can play a game of trying to spot them alongside the faithful?

I’d love a version where I didn’t know who they were.

It wouldn’t be hard to set up for iPlayer either.

I don’t think it would for me. You can’t really develop empathy for people you don’t know so it’d become a very simple show where you only route for the faithful and the traitors as just ā€˜bad’. A lot of the format for creating drama / excitement/ buzz wouldn’t work either. I think essentially that would just be another show, and if it was made it would feel pretty generic compared to the traitors

That’s why a version can just be cut for those who want it. I know a few who would prefer it too.

I want to be a part of the show and not knowing would add so much excitement for me personally.

Well, they obviously aren’t going to create two versions themselves but maybe someone online might create such a version?

I don’t think it’s an obvious thing though; it’s basically a minor version of interactive TV. It’s totally possible.

I don’t think they will but I don’t think it’s a crazy concept.

Good, you are right, they won’t

Absolutely but we all get entertained by different things. If you think you’d get more from knowing who the traitors are, watch that version. If you want the parts where you see who they are cut out, watch that version.

I thought that to start with, but I think it’s more than an edit, it just becomes a different show.

You would have to lose a lot - none of the Traitors tower scenes, for example. And you’d also have to lose the interviews with the Traitors - which would make it pretty easy to work out by who’s not getting any of those.

And then some challenges wouldn’t really work - those where the Traitors have to kill in plain sight or (as is looking likely this series) sabotage a mission probably couldn’t be cut easily.

That’s not to rubbish the idea - I’m surprised the UK version of The Mole hasn’t made a comeback on the back of the Traitors. It was excellent!

I’d also be here for a spin off version of the Traitors designed not to reveal identities - then have some bonus episodes at the end with interviews and stuff from their perspective. But I’m very much here for the standard version right now!

Episode three was excellent. Thoughts:

Glad Armani(a) got the boot

How objectionable is that bloke who argued with Jake?

Keen for the Rail Replacement service! I know it’s a clever play on words, but am I reading too much into ā€œreplacementā€ - can they banish players and replace them with the train people? (If so, I have a shortlist of folk I’d want out)

Linda is good but not as iconic as I wanted her to be. She’s not going to last…

I thought he was perfectly reasonable. It’s a game where people are out for themselves, and he told Jake that. Everyone who didn’t get off the boat acted selfishly.

I think I see eye to eye with him because we are both autistic to be honest. I don’t understand why Jake felt he could throw a massive tantrum and then get even more angry when someone just said the obvious truth as to why what happened, happened.

Talking of Jake, I really do think he’s a piece of work. He’s going to get Kas out which will be a big loss to the faithfuls, somehow based on the belief that doctors kill people at night? The traitors would be mad to murder him.

I’ll reserve judgement, but this series doesn’t seem as good as the previous two to me. The first couple felt more like early days Big Brother, where everyone was very normal, and there was greater warmth towards one another. Certainly didn’t feel like your usual reality TV contestants. This time, everyone pretty much wanted to be a traitor, there’s more strategy and what appears to be fewer friendships. I think what made such good TV in the first couple of series, were people were quite new to it all, and that meant some really genuine moments of human emotion and surprise. I’ll probably change my mind, but that’s my my feeling so far.

I agree with you. I think I mentioned it earlier on. This is the way with reality TV sadly. I loved the Circle initially but it went the same way.

Yes it’s inevitable, happens to every reality show (where they are good to begin with, some are just bad and stay bad).

I’m sure everyone including me will keep watching for several more seasons while also continually moaning that it’s ’not like it used to be’
