The Wallet/Bag Discussion

Oh yeah. Oh well, the hunt continues…

Anyone have one of these?

I’m very tempted, especially in that green.

I don’t have one but is a very handsome wallet imo

Some of the “vegan” leather options contain quite a lot of plastic.

I’m all for alternative materials but was severely disappointed with Otterbox and their cactus leather iPhone case. It really is something like 30% cactus and the rest is just PU.

I understand the desire for animal free products but I at the same time don’t wish to pollute any more than I do!

This looks like Apple leather. But not clear how much is actually plastic

lol yeah I use the cashback. So far I earned £32 and still to wait till October (anniversary date) before I get my cashback but hopefully by then I’ll have about £90 by then. The metal on the holder is covered with plastic so no scratches . The metal is just the spring thing to keep the cards secure and not slide out (but they are covered with plastic). Love it on my iPhone 13mini.

This is to be expected though, surely? If it was 100% cactus then, well…:cactus:

For the same reason I would never expect my underwear to be 100% bamboo. :grimacing:

Really? Doesn’t sound right to me that a product marketed as cactus leather should be 70% plastic?

Bamboo underwear is somewhat different as that’s 95% bamboo fibres.

Also cactus leather is made by processing the plant… obviously not peeled cactus…

I bought the red version of this and it’s real leather. :backhand_index_pointing_down:t3:

Love their design language.

Pleather is quite popular these days

On the hunt for a backpack for work that can double up as a travel backpack so 25L to 35L capacity.

Any recommendations?

I have one of these

It’s been as equally useful out in cafes, on the tube, in the car as it has hiking in Madeira and stuffed under the seat in front of me long haul.

Yes it’s a lot but you get what you pay for. Lightweight and seemingly bombproof.

Cheers for the suggestion. This looks great.

Given the ‘for work’ requirement, are you carrying a fair amount of tech more often than not? (laptop/tablet/headphones/cables/charges/etc.)

I am yes, the more compartments the better really.

My Superdry has a laptop slot and slots for things I don’t even know what to put in them

The next question would be: style over substance - or - substance over style?

That’s a tricky one - something that looks good on your back and does an ‘OK’ job, versus something that doesn’t look as good, but is more functional.

This is a minefield of personal preference/requirements/value. I’ve spent way too much time evaluating what works best for me while visually looking the best. The trade-offs (and functionality gains) are sometimes difficult to see initially. I generally work from:

  • Function - can it carry what you need it to carry?
  • Comfort - can you carry everything you need to without your spine compressing?
  • Visuals - does it look good (to you)?
  • Protection - will it help reduce damage to your stuff if dropped?
  • Security - Can someone easily take it off you, or open it and take stuff without you knowing?

There are a lot of options out there, and finding the best one for you is not as easy as it looks! Do some plenty of research, check out the reviews and go for what makes the most sense to you.

I settled on the older version of the City Pack Pro 2. They don’t stock the original version anymore by the looks of it. But always found Aer gear to be of exceptional quality and durability.

This one has a back discrete zip which has an included laptop organiser. Great for all the cables and stuff that you might need. It doubles up as a secret document folder.

Only slight downside is this doesn’t have too many compartments but does well for what it does have. A top pocket which is pretty large and a big zip for the main pocket.

Like @davidwalton says is about what works for you. I wanted a roll top approach but with the ability to also open up the lid which this accomplishes.

Plus, if you’re in London for work like me a lot, it blends in quiet nicely on the Tube and in Pubs so doesn’t scream “ expensive ■■■■ inside” as much.
