The Wallet/Bag Discussion

Without reading the whole thread - anyone have suggestions for a day pack? I want something between full on day hiking gear and a commuter pack without it really being either.

For day trips where activities can range from visiting a gallery/exhibition/museum and having a nice meal, to spending a few hours walking either city streets, parks, or something like the Capital Ring.

Carrying water/snacks, perhaps a sweatshirt or lightweight coat, essentials such as sunglasses, Yorkshire sunhat, battery pack, umbrella. Budget up to about £175, perhaps £200.

Might just have to visit a few shops on my next trip the the Smoke - not much choice in Nottingham - but wondered if anyone had any suggestions.

After spending ages looking for a backpack/daypack myself, I’ve just bought a Stubble & Co Everyday backpack and a North Face Base Camp Voyager daypack, simply because I couldn’t decide between the 2, so thought I’d order both and send one back….

Roll top 20L looks quite nice. Might have to order. Thanks, never heard of them but I like the look of their stuff.

Salkan Daypack - I use for days in the office or days out walking. It’s also big enough for one packing cube if you need it for a one night stay like I used it in Ambleside the other week.

Anyone have any recommendations for a gym duffel bag that was a dry / wet compartment?

I call this the commuter uniform bag, half of the people on my train into London every morning have this bag.

Afraid not. I know not of this “gym” of which you speak. Hope someone has some suggestions though.

This exact one, or one of the many other roll top bags which look very similar?

Either way they’re a bit of a rarity in Nottingham :joy:

Ended up buying this, had seen it, been looking for a roll top, and wanted something else then by Bellroy.

No this actual one, the Stubble and Co logo is on the bottom right.

I know you’ve already ordered a bag but I’ve got this for the trips down to London.

When it’s just a day it’s great, doesn’t feel oversized and can carry a few things.

When it’s two or more days it’s a literal black hole, easily get a few days clothes in there plus work things and it never feels like it’s there.

I managed to find an end of line one for £50 and it’s bombproof

Found a new Carhartt Wallet which is highly marmite like. The flap on the front is designed to be a note clip which does work but feels and looks a bit silly.

Six cards but no where to put notes or receipts (apart from the notes clip). There are small card pockets on the front which I’ve found will take notes if rolled up.

Actually a surprisingly nice wallet all told. Compact enough to not feel bulky but large enough to hold the cards I have.

Still very happy with Aer City Pack 2 Ultra. Just on train from Antwerp to Brussels on a little break with it.

I’m not sure I’ve ever needed a vertical zip on a bag like this, will it be useful?

I also don’t understand rolltops either, seems like far too much material getting in the way.

The idea is, that rolltops are a pain to find thing in, so the vertical zip makes that easier.

So far so good when I was looking for my sunglasses at Whitechapel this morning

Oh I see, so it solves the masses of material at the top getting in the way, whilst watching everything fall out the front of your bag as you unzip. I think I will remain unconvinced. Nice colour though.

They are simple (no way for them to fail really) and are watertight (if the fabric is waterproof). Waterproof zips are very expensive and prone to failure.

Well, that’s why they are popular on certain outdoor packs. There’s no real need for a commuter bag to be watertight (especially one with a big zip down the middle ).

Howwwwwww much!?!

Then just found this which I’m tempted by.
