The Seven-Day Switch! Here’s what happens on each day when you switch to Monzo

How does Full Monzo closing your other account work for other accounts from the same bank? So I have a credit card, ISA saver and joint account with Halifax as well as my personal account? If I go full Monzo and it closes my personal account I would assume the rest are untouched and it wont affect my online banking or anyhing like that? Sorry, maybe daft questions!

It would just close the account you gave Monzo/CASS the account number and sort code for.

The other accounts are unaffected and you can still log in as usual.

The only potential problem is if your savings, for example, have an offer that is reliant on you having a current account with the same bank. It depends on the bank but if you have a higher savings rate because you also have a current account that offer would no longer apply. Double check with your bank first to see if anything like that applies.

Most banks will inform you about this when you start the switch. Although they generally send letters by snail mail, so expect a letter through the door a week after the switch has completed. 🤷

Thank you! This was really helpful

Agreed, there’s also the scenario where the account is only available to current account customers in which case it is quite likely that you will have to close the other accounts as well as the current account.

I’m still not 100% on the move across to Monzo - Is there anything I need to be suspicious off?

Not that I’m aware of. They are full authorised and regulated and FSCS protected. What is making you uncertain?

I guess there is something in the bank of my mind that says ‘Is this too good to be true?’ I loaded the card and used it abroad and when flying but actually using this as a card. Maybe I am just stuck in the old ways of banking but please help me get into the future of ‘mobile’ banking

The last 3 months have seen a lot of functional development to try and get the account and app to reach the ‘minimum’ standard to allow even the most reluctant person to comfortably switch banks. Having said that, it’s very hard to counter general feelings without coming across as a bit of a zealot! Specifics are easier to discuss.

I’m up for the idea but when it’s put into practise; there is just this bit that thinks ‘its too good to be true’ but like I said; I’m very naive. I think when payday comes; I will make the switch and integrate with IFTTT (Is this safe).

I know what you mean. I jumped in to try the app etc. when it was still a prepaid card, just over two years ago.

Transferring the mandatory intitial £100 was a big decision. I half thought I’d never see it again.

That’s exact my thoughts but I see people are going #FullMonzo - Getting employers to transfer Money into their accounts. I guess my question is “Is Monzo safe to use #FullMonzo?”

Thanks,

I’ve not had an issue in the year I’ve been doing it, but you’d expect me to say that as a forum regular.

Taking it down to basics, my view is that as a fully regulated and guaranteed bank, even if they fail, the worst that will happen is there will be some inconvenience after which I’ll get my money back so the potential for damage is limited.

I’ve been #FullMonzo since August 17’ (back when the current account was still in beta and it was not recommended to rely on it as your main account) and I haven’t had any issues, so I would definitely recommend you do the switch!

Thank you! This makes me feel better. Do you use IFTTT?

No, no need for it at the moment, but it is safe so I wouldn’t worry about using it if needed.

Switch now? If you use CASS any payments to your old account will be redirected anyway so no worries.

CASS? I’m unsure what that is?

If you have another current account and want to switch to Monzo you can use the Current Account Switch Service which will transfer your balance, direct debits, scheduled payments and will also redirect any payments made to your old account for the next 3 years.
