The Seven-Day Switch! Here’s what happens on each day when you switch to Monzo

I’m in the process of switching to Monzo.

I have a few DDs coming out of a Barclays account, I want to move some of them to my Monzo, and some to a Monzo Joint account.

Yesterday, I was able to move some of my DDs to my personal Monzo. Today, when I try, the partial switch feature is missing. How can I move some of my Direct Debits to my Joint Monzo account without closing my old bank account? Yesterday the option was available, today it is not.

thanks,
Ben

Hi @anon39221886 ,

See this post here: We’re turning off partial current account switches from today

Partial switches have been disabled due to too many issues being caused by merchants not actually updating the details. :pensive:

Congrats on going full Monzo though!

Your best bet is to update the details manually.

@rasasu this option seems to have been removed today.

Manually. As in write to every company separately…? I’d be better off staying with Barclays tbh.

Some will be online (which takes seconds to change) and some you can phone

Most are a quick phone call or online form.

It didn’t take me long to do about 15.

@Rat_au_van beat me to it

Either that or conduct a full switch and then look to relocate them manually from there when you have 5 mins.
I did a number of mine in the past and it really only takes a few mins.

Yeah. I guess I’m more annoyed that I spoke to support yesterday about this and they didn’t mention that it would be turned off today. I’ve been spending time convincing people to switch to monzo, including my wife re setting up a joint account… and TODAY the feature is gone.

I suspect the support staff weren’t aware of the changes planned otherwise they would have given you a heads up.

Hopefully you still find Monzo enjoyable enough to relocate to fully.

Maybe. The whole point of this joint account exercise was to feel more confident with combined payments. Monzo removing this feature with no warning (it’s still listed on https://monzo.com/features/switch/ btw) does not help with that. I’m looking at how to transfer payments manually, and sure enough many do not have online forms or ways to transfer without writing, hence my interest in the service.

The full switch is quite easy and convenient in my opinion. Monzo style :tada::bank:

If you’re happy closing your old account, sure. I’m moving payments to a joint account, I don’t want to close my old one.

It’s still not as bad as it might seem, I’ve moved the majority of my direct debits manually.

Most suppliers you can do this on their website in a few minutes, there were only 2 or 3 that I had to call to do over the phone. That’s the painful part because you’re stuck in a call centre queue.

So if I do go full mozo I dont need to inform my employer etc? any future payments that are sent to my now closed account would in fact go automagically to my monzo account?

I’d still tell your employers to save any hassles, but in theory yes that’s how it should work.

I’d still double check that they were informed.

The “automagical” forwarding only lasts for a couple of years so at some point in the future you may mysteriously not get paid one day and that will be the reason.

source: Happened to me

As for direct debits, they’re fine because you see them starting to appear in your app a few days before your switch end date. You can therefore check that none are missing but you’re covered for that under the switch scheme anyway

The switch covers x amount of time after the last payment, l so if you are paid regularly it should keep redirecting

Ahh ok, that’s strange. I must have been misinformed  Perhaps ignore that part from me then!

Either way, my employer didn’t update my payment details when I did the switch. So in my opinion it’s worth double checking

So why can’t it be the 6 day switch?

I want to do a full switch and just want to know if child maintenance payments coming in would automatically be switched as well without having to call the CSA service?
