The Monzo app is changing: we've had a makeover!

But they still show up in your daily spend amount regardless, that’s the problem with it, and why left to spend is so much better!

You’re right, they did show up in the daily spending, but since they are usually fixed amounts I knew about, on fixed dates and usually much higher than a ‘budget spending’ they weren’t confusing or misleading. At least not for me.

I’m sure a lot of hard work has gone into the new app, but from a user perspective it has really taken a step backwards.

On the home screen I used to be able to see …

  1. Current balance
  2. Current day spend
  3. Recent transactions
  4. A pulse graph which at least indicated any sharp recent dips … for the what was that moment!

No extra buttons to press.

Now I see …

  1. A picture of me (don’t really need that)
  2. A picture of my Monzo card (I have that in my wallet if I want to stare at it)
  3. Current balance
  4. Lots of other options I don’t use (but can’t get rid of)

So now, lots more unnecessary navigating to have what was previously a very clean experience.

The app is Monzo’s shop front and it was well received and even made some people choose Monzo.
The consensus amongst about 8 of us Monzo users is a real retrograde step and two now considering going to other banks apps.

If you are going to change things why don’t you let users decide with a settings which features they want on the home screen?

Alternatively can we have a classic mode (as it was) option until it’s configurable?

Thanks, and sorry if it sounds negative - just being honest.

Do you know which?

I guess I’m going to be the last one to be upgraded to the latest UI

Morning!

My Android device just updated to 3.1.0, is there a change log anywhere? Published details to play wasn’t specific. I’m assuming it’s a bug squash but if there’s anything exciting I’ve not found it yet.

Hey Sean,

You can check out what’s changed here:

 Knew it would be lurking somewhere.

Starling

It would be really handy if you could mark an account as default. It’s annoying having to scroll back to my joint account every time I open the app especially as the default behaviour in the old interface was to open in the account last viewed.

Ive just reluctantly used the pay from pot feature, i say reluctantly as i hoped to monitor my gym subs from my personal care budget, as its a DD it didnt register as daily spend and making sure i had enough extra in my main balance to cover it would have been reliant on memory

So i created a pot purely to hold this money, tapped ‘pay from this pot’, ot took me to a list of subscriptions where i chose the gym DD, then it asked me which pot i would like to pay from?!?!

So i has to choose a pot, to then choose the DD, to then choose the pot again

This is a feature that annoys me, but the way to go back to your main account feed is to press home

Unfortunately this cycles through
Main balance
Joint main balance
What you can do with monzo

With am annoying swipe past all the pointless pot headers

It’s that swipe on the home screen that’s annoying. My personal account isn’t my main account, my joint account is - it’s the one that has my money in it and that I use on a daily basis. I want that to come up by default in my home feed.

Sounds like it would suit you if personal and joint accounts were kept separate as they were before. Thats something ive said further up the feed. Theyre separate accounts, they shouldnt be so integrated like they are in the new nav

It took ages to figure out how to give feedback without reading all 600 hours worth of comments, so that’s the first bit!

The new design is harder to use, IMO. It’s less clear what’s going on, and removing the day by day balance change makes it harder for me to manage my money. There doesn’t seem to be a replacement feature.

I’d switch back in a heartbeat if I could.

I was like that at first, I have been using it since it was first available in labs. Now the very thought of going back to the old navigation gives me shivers down my spine.

Sorry, there’s 300 odd comments in here. I skipped reading most of them

Having them on the same feed is fine (for me) as long as it’s possible to have that feed open on the view you want. I don’t use pots so the swiping doesn’t massively bother me, just that I have to do it every time.

Hopefully when pot and card re-ordering launches this will iron out swiping issues for those with Joint Accounts etc.

I think this might just be a test they are running at the moment, Lots of people here also saying it opens at the last place you had it, so unless you are talking once it’s been force closed and opens from scratch, it does seem for some at least that it opens where you last had it (certainly does for me)

If they are proposing leaving Monzo for Starling to get what they consider a better UI then I can only chortle a little to myself. People eh?
