The Eurovision Song Contest

How many fake reactions do you think the Switzerland team have left for receiving 12 points?

The engagement farm is really fired up at the moment

Even if Israel do very well in the televote, they pretty much can’t catch up (without those at top getting virtually no votes)

I’ve never understood twitter’s trending, this is mine

The entertainment tab has no mention of Israel or their artist.

Poor Olly. He didn’t deserve such a low score.

I don’t get these people, Israel was number 2 in the public vote, either people are leaving politics out of it as should they have or the quieter majority don’t actually hate Israel.

Shame we got 0 it’s got to hurt Olly, Switzerland deserved it, personally I didn’t like Croatia, it was upbeat though.

I think this was too be expected. It wasn’t as if there was a Palestinian option to get behind. So you end up with a small minority in each country, who are strongly supportive of Israel, making the extra effort to vote.

I actually thought Israel should have probably done better in the jury vote. Very pro Israel countries like Germany, were the only ones to give Israel decent points.

Of course it’s the quiet majority that don’t hate Israel, look on Twitter and then anywhere else and the difference is stunning

They might not be able to even if they want to, as she does have a serious condition that may preclude her involvement, sad to say.

Id imagine a lot of people are annoyed seeing the conflict protests all over the UK, and voted for Israel just as a way to get back at them

The votes we saw tonight are not representative of what I saw on the news for the last 9 months, and im not saying anyone doing the above is right either

But something does not add up, the “public attitude” that was being presented doesn’t lead to this kind of vote

True, though I think this might have been the most politicised event in the last 5 years other than electrons

Hey, if that turns out to be the case it’d be great! But personally im not so sure

Just been letting the end of the show play out again, having rewound the telly to check what we gave Switzerland (needlessly, as it turned out) and have noticed something I didn’t spot first time:

At the end of the final performance, Nemo bangs the trophy down on the stage, and, er, breaks it!

I imagine, as has been said above, that it just boils down to it being harder to make a “pro-Palestinian” vote when there isn’t a single country to coalesce around. So even if people were trying to vote around that one issue it was easier for one view point to show.

Basically I think a lot of people watched it and voted for songs/performances they liked, and some voted politically.

I’m glad the “lol I don’t have pants on” bit didn’t win.
