Not really the luckiest start, what with the railway sabotage and what looks like potentially quite a damp ceremony…
I think a lot fewer will be watching the Olympics this year in the UK as the BBC no longer has the full TV rights and as such you would need a Discovery Plus subscription to see all of it.

Haven’t ever really had the desire to return to Paris, seemed like a huge overrated tourist trap and by the sound of it it’s got a lot worse in the last few years

It was like that for the Tokyo games, but because of the time difference, I doubt many people noticed.
The BBC are able to gets two channels for it but that is enough for me. I’m not that into sport to pay for it, although the current £3.99 offer from Discovery+ isn’t bad.
Fewer than when? The BBC have only had 2 streams since 2018 (they sacrifised their full 2018/2020 rights in order to secure access to the 22 and 24 games):
It’s been the case since the 2018 Winter Olympics.
Does RTE have the rights to show it?

Absolutely love the Olympic. It’s awesome seeing so many niche sports get their time in the spotlight.
Really enjoy most of the sports but being a very amateur player, badminton is a particular favourite as it completely blows me away how incredibly skilful they are.

What’s everyone’s thoughts on the opening ceremony so far? Maybe it’s because I’m not French, but don’t think it’s a patch on London.

I love Paris and I wanted to love the opening ceremony. I don’t dislike it, I’m quite enjoying it, but you’re right, it’s not a patch on London 2012. I’m enjoying but not loving it.

Weird. Pacing is all over the place. Parade of nations jumbled in. Too many mismatching video cutaways which jar. Perhaps it’d all hang together if the weather was better, but it isn’t and it’s a bit foolish of them to have gambled on that given their climate is basically the same as our own!
I agree. So far I think it’s lacked a narrative (but maybe I’m that’s just me being stupid).
I’m enjoying this Europop segment though
