My debit card still hasn’t arrived (had the pin for a week now). Sent them a secure message as concerned it’s got lost.
Ngl = Niggle
Card still not arrived. Reported as lost and another is coming in 6-8 days.
Transferred £1000, put £250 into regular saver, sent £750 back to Monzo and now waiting nervously…
Not sure if I have the nerves to do this for three more months to get the full bribe.
You need to use the debit card a number of times each month too and have two active DDs.
Yes hence the urgency to get a card in my hands! DDs are in place.
There’s no rush. Everything on this offer is a month later than you probably think it is. I opened the account in June, the saver a few days later and added the money to it. The DD wasn’t required until July, the £75 turned up early July, but the first £15 didn’t arrive until September.
It does feel a bit like banking in slow motion
On the plus side, this is likely the last CASS they’ll be doing as we’ll be CASSing into Coventry First not too long from now
This can’t come soon enough. And hopefully I’ll be 18 by the time it launches.
If you’re thinking that you’ll be going down that route, I’d open a Coventry savings account now so you’ve passed the ID bit ahead of time.
I’m already there. Got a Young Saver and a Triple Access Saver going at the minute. Might shove 20 quid into a fixed bond at some point cuz why not.
This is speculation, and it’s pretty wild speculation at that.
We have no evidence at all that Coventry BS will do about current accounts. It could be they remain with the Bank.
Eh. They’ve done current accounts before, and now that they’re merging with a bank, it would make sense to bring it all under one name, CovBS. And as a result, there will be a CovBS Current Account.
Yes there is speculation, but it’s got some strong ideas going for it. And all the card collectors want a CovBS Card aswell
Live updates: just on hold trying to get this payment released
Cut off after half an hour on hold. I should have listened to advice on here
Edit: released after only an hour and the usual questions. Gonna take the £75 and run away.
Summary
Sentence schmentence.
They might choose to harmonise the brands, they might not - but unless Coventry decide to divest of the portfolio of investment and business products the Co-op Bank currently offer the bank asset will likely remain. If that’s the case, who knows what else will have to remain aligned to the bank - it might be that the current accounts can’t be taken out without fouling that entity’s reserve requirements.
There’s far too much ambiguity to be certain of anything with the takeover - but you can be absolutely certain that a bank won’t be allowed to trade with a brand including “Building Society”, even if it is owned by one.
Emm… Nationwide Building Society and Cumberland Building Society.
And earlier Chelsea Building Society and Norwich & Peterborough Building Society.
Coventry can’t retain the CoOp name so that will definitely have to change.
They still run three separate accounts with current account facilities, just missing the debit card on them since 2019.
Oh, and much, much earlier Halifax owned a bank (which ultimately morphed into their Deposit Cheque Account that they ran up to the 1990s).
CovBS currently has 64 branches, and Co-Op Bank has 50, so together they will have a really strong branch network. They’ll probably close a few branches where there’s a CovBS and Co-op branch in the same place, but even then they’ll still have a 100+ branch network.
I’m honestly very excited for what is to come.
