Switch to Monzo and Help us Test the Current Account Switch Service

How does this cope with any merchants who don’t accept/recognise Monzo’s details? I have one direct debit from Natwest that’s there just because the company don’t let me use a Monzo’ account details.

woah. it’s wild that this happened at all. You mean they rejected the sort code or something?

Well my full switch has just completed. Interestingly if you click on any of the DDs, it just invites you to delete it. Presumably the content will get richer as they are actually paid out next time?

Are you on Android? iOS gives you some information but Android just immediately goes to delete.

Yes. Would hope after the first payment to see as much as a normal purchase

Not on Android atm.

Even in the transaction feed?!

Well, I’ve just put in my switch from Nationwide: I was hoping it wouldn’t be necessary - but Pressdram seem unwilling to let me login to update my Direct debit (the last one remaining) so here I go.

Thoughts:

  • Finding the option was a bit tricky. Email said ‘On Android, tap ‘Settings’ to find the option to switch’. I did think briefly it was under the ‘Settings’ App (i.e. Android Settings). On Android, it’s Monzo-> Account->Cog->Half way down… Not too obvious… Of course, now I’ve said that I now see a feed item to ‘Move to Monzo in minutes’ which I’m sure wasn’t there before (should the feed item still be showing when an ‘Account switch in progress’ feed item is also there?)
  • Wow. That’s a lot of terms and conditions - I know they are probably required, but perhaps just one page we skim read instead skim, Next, skim, next etc.
  • Confirmation of the bank/building society name at the stage of entering the sort code would be good.
  • You are asking for the last 5 digits of the card number of the old bank. Why? I didn’t have to provide that the last time I used CASS (which, admittedly, was a few years ago). Did mean I had to interrupt my signup flow to get the old card… It does seem a reasonable security measure though.
  • Perhaps an option “Have you previously transferred money to/from Monzo from/to this account: Yes - to Monzo, Yes - to old account, Yes - both ways, No” and if “yes” selected, then show all bank transfer details (i.e. not direct debits/cards) that match and allow the user to select one to save reentering the details.

Just started my switch. All seems pretty smooth. However I have 3, perhaps four different current accounts I hope to switch. I am not going to do them all at the same time. Instead one at a time assuming the previous one went without an issue.

Anyway because of this I think it would be a lot better if the feed item we are waiting to hear from ‘Natwest’ instead off ‘your old bank’ that way in the future when I look back through my feed I can see when I switched various accounts instead of just seeing 3-4 identical feed items.

In the feed there are details about the transaction.

But on iOS the DD screen gives you information whereas Android doesn’t.

Hi

Great news! Will it contact our employers for salaries too or do we have to do that manually?

For the full switch yes, I think so. For the partial one you’ll need to update your employer yourself :frowning:

Is it possible to change from a partial to a full switch? I requested a partial but I want incoming payments to redirect, and I’m ok with closing my old account. I haven’t actually started the process, other than to request the list of direct debits from my old bank.

I think this is probably something that the lovely in app help people could sort out for you - or at least confirm whether it’s possible… (I imagine it would be)

Just tested the Switching Service. Initially I was going to do the Full switch until I read it closes the old account so opted for the partial switch.

Feedback: on the full switch there is lots of next accept next (perhaps regulatory so justified) but apart from that the process for full and partial was painless.

Looking forward to the next stage of the partial switch to see how to select the payments.

My switch has begun. Two things I’d like to point out.

  1. What reason would someone have to not switch on the “first available date”?
  2. I will be switching while overdrawn on the source bank account. CASS is compatible with that, but has anyone else tried that with Monzo yet? (EDIT: I have enough Monzo overdraft to cover it)

Probably to align with financial cycles - salary, bills that you know are coming up etc. If I knew that my salary and bills mostly went in/out at the end of the month, I might want to switch at the beginning when it’s quieter. Always nice to have the option, though?

I would recommend you contact in-app support and ask them to cancel the partial switch and then start a new full switch the next (working) day. Alternatively you could complete the partial switch and then start another full switch.

Agreed unfortunately these documents are required by the scheme (the company that operates the system) :disappointed:

  1. As @Peter_G mentioned this could be used if you wanted to ensure that your account is switched after all your monthly bills have gone out, that being said in practice just choosing the first available date should be perfectly safe.
  2. As you mention this is compatible with CASS however we do not currently support transferring a negative balance to Monzo so you will likely be contacted by your old bank to repay whatever you owe.
