We factored in the fine to our annual holiday cost. It still worked out significantly cheaper than going in term time.
As others have said, they’re quick to catch up even after a week off – it’s no different from taking time off due to illness. Plus, there’s the added benefit of immersing in a different culture and spending quality time with family.
A recent amendment to our schools policy is no more than 3 occurrences in 5 years otherwise you face fines of up to £2,500 and imprisonment. So that’s put a stop to it

If it really is over 3 weeks of holidays, then I agree - some sort of fine makes sense.
As usual I suspect it’s a small minority causing problems for the majority. But when it’s just an annual holiday, taken at the right time and with the understanding that the children will catch up and not fall behind in their learning, then there’s no issue at all.
