Salary Sort / Scheduled Payments

Looking for some help from some of you lovely lot

I sent some money to my Monzo account yesterday (over £500) and it popped up saying about “Salary Sort” (I think, it was a ‘Sort’ of some description) which I was surprised about because I don’t (yet) have my salary paid in.

Now, I’ve spent the last 15 minutes today working out how to sort things again as it disappeared! You have to go into that specific payment again!

From what I see, I can sort larger payments (not just salary!) which is great, but I already set up Scheduled Payments individually (which is annoying as this would’ve done it automatically!)

You can even sort into joint pots! Which is great. BUT: because I’ve already set Scheduled Payments I thought I’d carry on that way.

DILEMMA: I have a JOINT pot. I want to set a scheduled payment to it from my PERSONAL account. For the life of me I can’t find where to do it. I can set it up from a JOINT account but if I click PERSONAL I don’t get the option to schedule it!

Given you can set up the SORTER to sort payment into the JOINT pot, this has surely got to be a bug rather than a feature request? Why/how on Earth has this been missed?

Or is it ‘me’ and I’m doing it/understanding it incorrectly?

Payments > move money

Or Payments > scheduled > edit

Salary sort only appears for so long after you send the money in (2 hours?)

Sadly not. Only from the Joint account. Sure, I can send money now (which I have done) but I’d like it to do it automatically each month?

No, it’s not you.

if you’re doing it from personal to personal pot, the “schedule” slider is there so you can turn it on and then choose your dates/frequency. But disappears if I select the opposite account/account pot.

You get 48 hours to sort any payment that’s above £100 (I think it’s £100)

Whew  thanks.

So surely this is a bug? Or something they’ve just not changed? Because “Sort” allows you to do it so that’s a schedule?

I don’t get why one not the other?!

So: I thought I’d use this ‘Salary Sort’ thing as it appears to be the only way you can schedule payments to joint pots.

So I delete my old scheduled payments (no need for them twice!), go to the Sorter thing (not even an option, it’s hidden in large payments!) then get it all lined up to ‘Save’. But you can’t do that!!! You have to send the money and then save it!? W T A H….

What is going on. I literally just want to schedule a payment from my personal account to a joint pot. Why is it this difficult? It can clearly do it, as the ‘Sorter’ has that option but scheduled payments do not.

So, my options are:

  • Remove all the money manually that I scheduled and since gone to all personal pots and that I manually swept to joint then the joint pots. Then set up the sorter.

Or

  • Transfer another load of money into Monzo, set up the sorter and save it

I swear the app developers must go:

Dev 1: “Ooh, I’ve had a great idea…”
Dev 2: “Looks greaaaat, I’ve launched it”
Dev 1: “Waaait, it’s not finished we shoul….”

“Let’s move on to the next thing…”

Send money to self > sort payment > sort > done

It won’t do it automatically. You have to do it.

Revolut however, if it’s the same payment in each month you can salary sort one specific payment and it’ll move it automatically to your Pockets and Savings. Has a 20% flex either way too which is good for salary etc.

Thanks - will look into that.

I guess I’ll continue to send via my main account outside of Monzo, each month, via the standing order (or faster payment, whichever they call it…)

From there , in Monzo, I’ll do the ‘Sorter’ rather than the scheduled payments (I’m not setting those up individually again!)

Very manual. I guess I was wrong to presume Monzo had this sort of this covered and automated. Well, they seem to, just not joined up very well. The most pressing, from what I can tell, is at the very least making sure you can send a scheduled payment from your personal account to a joint pot!

Can’t you send the payment to your joint account and sort from there?

I guess I can, although not the ‘sort’ as it will be smaller payments. So I guess I could do a scheduled payment from my personal to joint then a scheduled payment from joint to a joint pot.

That’s a lot of faff and I worry one will be done before the other causing a decline. Well, it shouldn’t decline as money will always be in there (if I choose to take up Monzo full time) but at the moment I’m just testing it out and, well: its a faff!

You do like to try and make every aspect of your banking life as complicated as possible.

Sort your salary. Automate what you can. Why does it have to be so complicated?

Not really. It’s very simple? Or rather it should be?

That’s what I was enquiring about?

I’m not sure? That’s what I’m querying?

You do seem to want Monzo to do every single thing for you, and rant because it can’t.

Go outside and get some fresh air.

You and @Revels live in the same Grouch bin lol?

*because it can.

Fixed it for you lol.

Can’t.

It can. They’re doing it with the ‘Salary Sorter’ already. You can sort the payments into joint pots from the payment in your personal account. They just didn’t finish setting up the ‘Scheduled Payments’ properly to include from personal to joint pots.

Unless you’re suggesting Monzo don’t have the technical capability of scheduling funds from Personal accounts to joint pots? Seems a little far fetched given the other automations (including the Salary Sorter)?

Guess I’ll just put up and shut up then and not dare to suggest making things better.

Remember that when it comes to the vibrate function @Carlo1460 :winking_face_with_tongue:.

Or just ignore them, let them post their negative view of how they believe everything not in their narrow scope is wrong. If enough people just ignore them and don’t bite they should get bored and disappear. I for one enjoy seeing many people pov rather than things through a narrow lense of a few
