Rich Push Notifications

I love the instant notifications for transactions, and I think the emojis are a nice touch. But, I’d love it if they were presented as a mini transaction feed item instead. Merchant logo, Merchant name, Amount, Location. With options to query the transaction when tapped.

Target/summary feedback could be made more distinct too as I normally just glance at a notification and a bit of text isnt as obvious.

Any other ideas for rich notifications? I’m on Android so not sure how much you’re able to do with iOS.

That would be cool - I like the emoji but would so much rather the actual merchant logo displayed alongside the merchant name.

The latest Android APIs support this

Reviving this topic to first of all, pledge my support for the idea, and second of all suggest that is could be used for a more frictionless method of confirming transactions that I outlined here in another thread:

These could also be used as a quick way to respond to payment requests, or to say thanks. Or deep links to in app actions for a transaction like category splitting, os salary sorting. Or to accept the get paid early notification so you can receive your salary without needing to open the app. There are probably countless other ways these could be used to reduce friction, screen time, and time spent in the Monzo app.

I’m surprised this idea had very little discourse back when it was posted, because I think it’s a great feature request and I would love to see them do something with rich notifications.

Great idea. The authentication flow is very annoying, so my credit card tends to be default for online purchases

I believe it’s implemented already on iOS?

The nuance that it has to open the app to be able to authenticate the user - but can be fully initiated from the notification.

This would be excellent. Sadly, it was a pretty hard no the last time this was asked.

That’s a shame. Would have thought simply having access to the device that’s logged in would have been sufficient.

Was there an announcement for this anywhere? I don’t recall ever seeing it mentioned in any release notes for an app update.

Edit: just tested this, and you’re right! Pretty nice flow. Only thing that would make it better is if you didn’t have to launch the app to do it, which is essentially what I’m requesting in my initial post.

Oh wow I did not know this was a thing either!

I always just click the notification and it sometimes takes me into the transaction and sometimes just to the feed.

This is much better!

I don’t believe so. I know it was mentioned somewhere at some point on here.
Definitely been there for over 6 months though I think.

Yeah it’s always feed for me, then I have to tap on the transaction, then tap approve. With that quick action it takes me to straight to the Face ID scan which is very nice. It’s possible to actually trigger Face ID from within rich notifications too though, so hoping that’s something they add if they absolutely do require that third factor.

Well thanks for the tip! Had no idea that this existed. Going to keep an eye out for other Monzo notifications now to see what, if any, rich functionality they have.

They may be able to do Face ID for those using it but can they access the app to check the settings to know if FaceID or Card PIN is required? If it’s PIN then it’s pretty clearly going to still open the app I’d guess?

Yes, but that needn’t be a concern anyway. It would be entirely possible for Monzo to allow you to input your card pin directly from within the push notification too, at least on iOS.

I presume android offers similar functionality, given how Apple apparently always seem to be lagging behind with stuff like this.
