Hello! I’ve read about monzo joint account and I wonder if both owners receive push msgs for all money transactions? If so, is there a chance to filter this?
Yes, both members of the joint account will get notifications. Not sure if it’s filterable though.
Do you use it that way? It sounds a bit stockerish, isn’t it?
I don’t have a Monzo Joint Account, I just know that’s how it works.
Others will be able to provide more information about how it works.
I don’t think you can turn off notifications when the other person spends. The whole point of notifications is to let you know that money’s leaving the account, be that you, the other person on the account or a fraudster on the other side of the world
If you’re worried about others seeing your spending perhaps a joint account isn’t the right solution for you. Every JA will show all spending even if there aren’t instant notifications
I’m not worried about my partner’s knowledge about what’s going on with spending inside the app, but push notifications sounds a bit aggressive to me. I mean, if it is my flat mate who shares the account with me, there is not much space for privacy. He would know exactly where I am at any moment just because I bought something.
You shouldn’t really share a joint account with friends/flatmates
And if it’s your other half, I don’t see the issue
If you want privacy use the solo account.
I don’t see the problem with seeing a notification for the joint account especially since the money in the account is mine anyway. Plus I’d miss getting messages off the wife saying “How much?!!” after going on spending spree
If you’re sharing an account with someone and you don’t want them to know where you are, I think you have bigger issues than push notifications!
I have a joint account. You both get notifications and there is no way to stop that from happening.
If you have things you want to keep secret from your other half - use your personal account. After all you need one of these to have a joint account.
I also echo the risks and concerns of sharing an account with a flat mate. They’re generally for people in long-term committed relationships because of the financial connection and impact they have on your credit rating. As you’re finding out now, it’s not a right fit for your situation for a reason.
Joint accounts are designed to be viewable by both parties, even if it’s an account without notifications you’d still be visiting transactions via an app or getting statements through.
If you’re not comfortable with that then a joint account isn’t for you
DO NOT USE A JOINT ACCOUNT FOR THIS!! Use shared pots and add bills to that to manage.
Joint accounts link you financially together for credit reports and unless you are in a relationship with them and have a large amount of trust its a bad idea.
Thanks for all the replies! I’ll think about what you’ve said. Do you have any more special insights regarding Monzo joint account?
I’m not sure what you mean by this. A joint account is just like your current account just with 2 people.
But with a slightly reduced feature set.
And the bonus of someone else making your credit worse.
lol
Ok plus those two things But generally they’re the same.
