Then it just turns into a two-tier system like every other bank :’(
No, absolutely don’t!
Well, if there was a Black or Platinum card it would be optional. Don’t like it? Don’t buy it.
I prefer to think of it as a multiple choice bank…
The whole idea of Monzo is that everyone is on the same level playing field.
I must say I find banking rather personal to me. I’m not really interested in what playing field everyone else is on; I think that’s their business. I’m interested in what my bank can do for me, and if there are choices available to me and I can choose to opt in or out of this or that service, all the better.
Me too, I want my banking to be personal to me. So fine if Monzo offer one iteration and that works for me, but I’d never choose a bank account because it was exactly the same as everyone else. I’m not sure who you’re ‘playing’ on your level playing field @anon93718513?
There was a suggestion that Monzo should offer different account levels, some at a premium and which would incorporate for one thing a different coloured card.
I suggested that wasn’t such a great thing as Monzo want to have one account, one charging structure, that is fair and works for everyone. A level playing field.
It’s not so much about a level playing field, it’s about simplicity. Do one thing and do it well.
That too More what I meant actually - brain is obviously defective today!
This!!
Yes I posted before and well I don’t care
I hope Monzo does do one thing and do it well. I do worry just a tad though; at some point they will need to make money and I’m happy to back them. I really wouldn’t mind a £19.99/month account or some thing like that. It would be a pretty direct way to raise money, without needing to resort to gouging customers with penalty charges or other things just to stay afloat.
I think a lot of people would. Especially students who I would suggest make up a fair proportion of Monzo’s user base (certainly at the beginning)
Glad you can afford £20 a month just for a bank account! I suspect many others probably can’t…
The reality is, if you like an idea you have to back it…
Monzo is beyond an idea now, it’s a thing, a bank, an organisation looking to expand. If you wish to invest, go ahead and invest in shares. Heck, donate to them if you like.
The idea that people will pay for banking to that extent just isn’t viable. I would move immediately if a charge was introduced that wasn’t proportionate to what I was receiving.
I don’t think you can introduce a charge per se. I think you can give customers a choice. Lots of bank accounts today have a monthly fee and some collection of ‘rewards’ or incentives based on that. It’s not the way Monzo has to go, but it’s something all the other banks do and it’s not inherently ‘bad’, so it’s an option.
I don’t mind paying for quality banking services and I don’t mind voting with my wallet for ideas I like. I already have £100 of Monzo shares but that’s a one-time thing and isn’t a revenue stream. I want Monzo to be here for the long term future, not the short, and I’m prepared to back them and engage with them as they figure out revenue streams and ways to satisfy their investors (not me; I’m a tiny plankton; I mean the VCs) and satisfy their customers.
Like I said, go ahead and give them £20 a month, I’m just fairly sure you won’t see that from too many other customers.
I agree. Why would anyone pay £20 when Monzo competitors are free and can also be quite good?
I would pay Monzo because I also pay the competitors and they don’t do what Monzo does I have a reward account with Natwest as well.
