Payment not sent

This is a bit of a strange one, but could Monzo have a list of bank accounts that they wont allow money to be sent to (it was a Halifax account)

So a couple weeks ago my wife saw something on FB Marketplace, they lived in a city about 25 miles from us. I’ve used marketplace many times before and always sent the money without issues.

This time when I sent the money it came up “We’re not sure if this payment went through” Thinking it may have been just a one off issue I did it again double checking all details. The same error happened. Money never left the account.

I then sent the money into my wife’s account (Santander) which went into her account fine, then she passed it into the sellers account with no issues.

As you can guess the item has never arrived, and I was wondering whether Monzo did have a list of accounts that they wont send money too (such as Fraudsters and Scammers)

A bank share personal details of customers at another bank? Never gonna happen.

Monzo will hold these internally for those flagged for fraud etc, but could never give these away.

I’m sure if a number of Monzo customers have reported issues after sending money to that particular account then I wouldn’t be surprised if Monzo do restrict outbound payments to that account.

Which can be, by some means, personally identifiable to someone’s account (innocent or not, fraudsters are still eligible for data protection).

Yes, it was

When I saw this my account was frozen under review for around 2 hours, and it was with all payees, for some reason it’s just a generic frustrating error message that doesn’t tell you the actual reason

I imagine if you asked live chat they would’ve helped you more, if your theory that they thought this account was linked to scams was correct, really they should’ve reached out afterwards to enquire more about why you tried to make that payment

All they said was did I have all the account details correct. It was all correct.

I was able to send money to my wife’s account straight after with no issues.
