I work for Co-op Group, the issue is probably just staff not understanding. It’s supported because I’ve used it myself. I’d try keep it simple and say “can I put £x amount on here with PayPoint, just swipe it”.
This is the one of the problems with Monzo using paypoint. I found that when I had an issue with returning a parcel once the majority of the operators in my local area were not willing to do it saying it wasn’t possible. Even when I complained to paypoint they were apparently provided training over the phone they still told me it wasn’t possible. Paypoint eventually found me a local shop that was willing to do it and they seemed quite apologetic but there was a hint that they may have trouble training the operators in general.
Hopefully we’ll see post office deposits soon.
I just went over Tesco express and even though I’ve topped my card up there before, I was told today that they don’t top up Monzo anymore, not helpful.
My Tesco doesn’t do paypoint,
Does that Tesco show on the paypoint location map?
If it does then contact support and let them know they can chase it up with PayPal.
It may be a case for acceptance@monzo.com
tried 5 different places today, all refuse to even try and accept cash payment into monzo, seriously need an alternative option to Paypoint
Did they say what their excuse was
I find you get better luck if you say you’d like to top up your prepaid card. As some merchants know that’s possible but not for a monzo debit.
Probably because they dont want the cost of banking the cash themselves and make little money on the transaction.
I have tried it twice at different shops, I put the money on the counter and said I would like to top up, used all the terminology and they just said… it wasn’t working, I did not believe them in the slightest. I should of just pulled a tenner out and when they said yes, pulled the rest out.
Not tried as waiting for Monzo to use Post Offices hahaha
I’m really hoping this comes as part of Monzo Plus
I shouldn’t have to pay for Monzo Plus to be able to put money into my Monzo account! My workaround is use my legacy bank and then transfer to Monzo.
Oh I totally agree, but… they did explains that they didn’t do PO originally was because of the costs, If they continue to offer PayPoint to Free accounts and have PO costs offset by Plus, I’m ok with that as long as Plus offers me other things that I want, I wouldn’t want to feel like I only want Plus to get PO deposits
I do the same though, I have up with PayPoints long ago. Now I only keep a legacy for cheque and cash deposits. Cheque because legacy does it in app
And that is perfectly sensible, both from your point of view and from Monzo’s.
You get to deposit cash easily (and have an alternative bank for those occasions when Monzo might let you down), and Monzo get the advantages from doing your banking without the costs of handling your cash.
It wouldn’t be a sensible option.
In general, I’d say to those who want to deposit cash, and who are struggling with Paypoint, use another bank. You might find it’s a better fit for your needs, and if you do, there’s no clearer message to send to Monzo than a CASS away.
Other than Paypoint for paying into Monzo, I’ve not really had much of an issue with Monzo to think about moving away which is a bit extreme if my only issue for moving away would be down to me not being able to pay money in.
Sort of agree, sort of don’t.
PayPoint is a fine solution, If it worked. But it doesn’t and Monzo needs to open a dialogue with us about what they’re doing to fix it. Too many people seem to have issues with it for it be left how it is.
If you love everything else about a bank, you shouldn’t need to ditch them because of one thing. You can use another bank alongside Monzo to solve those issues and hope that Monzo one day fix them. CASS’ing isnt the answer.
You could CASS away for any multitude of reasons, Monzo wouldn’t know why you did it, so how would it help?
I can imagine a hypothetical conversation at Monzo like:
Employee 1: “oh, Barry Scott switched away from us, do you know why?”
Employee 2: “No, It was a CASS, so no idea”
Employee 1: “New bank probably had a Switch Bonus on then I guess”
Employee 2: “Don’t worry we’ll get another 40,00 sign up this week so we must be doing something right”
Poor example but you get my point, leaving only works if they know why you left
Sure. But you could tell them. You could have a conversation in app, which I’d hope would be cascaded up, if only for information. There might also be a team who look at account closures to see if there were any issues leading up it.
I absolutely agree. You shouldn’t have to. But you might want to. There are plenty of people in the forum who only want to have one bank account. If the set of those people intersects with those who want to pay cash in but struggle with Paypoint (or paying £1 for the pleasure), there’s currently only one way to go.
I’ve done this, well when I say done this, I haven’t said i’m leaving but I’ve raised PayPoint as an issue multiple times, it doesn’t go very far. They apologise, occasionally might take a location of where it was from you(Not every time) but that’'s about it. I’ve tried one place I’ve reported to Monzo and PayPoint twice, after reporting them weeks prior, still refuse to do it.
Having said that, from previous threads and comments on here I don’t blame Monzo for this in the first instance, It seems they were sold a service by PayPoint that PayPoint can’t actually offer because it financially screws over the merchants who actually do it for them.
What I do blame Monzo for is lack of action over it once this became apparent
If it was such a huge issue I think we’d be hearing a lot more about it on here or seeing it in Monzos numbers - even the topic to vote for it isn’t in the top 10. This is why I think Post office deposits would be an excellent Plus feature.
It’s not like you can’t deposit cash in Monzo, so just like “pro” versions of software and hardware - Post office deposits would fall under this and should be charged for as a bolt on for the minority who would find it useful.
We all know they’re never going to do it because it would require Monzo replacing all their cards. With Plus using different cards this would be the perfect time to implement it.
So I’ve today had my first pay point experience with a wodge of cash I’ve had for the last 3 weeks.
Went to my three nearest PayPoints, per the locator, and none of them would top up the card.
2 said “we don’t do that here” for the question of a card top up. I queried and said PayPoint and my bank say it should work. No dice.
One to be fair said they’re not doing pay point at all anymore.
It’s such a frustrating service. Will ping an email to Monzo, but god I didn’t think it would be so
Difficult to use paypoint
