I tried to pay at the pump but the machine doesn’t recognize the card. Instead ask me to pay with different card or pay at kiosk.
That is correct that it is not normally accepted at pay at pumps either in the UK or abroad. This is due to two factors. Many pay at pumps will not accept prepaid cards and the fact that Monzo’s current cards only allow for online authentication not offline authentication.
This is something we are aware of, with a simple search in this community revealing over a dozen previous posts either specifically mentioning this or refering to it as part of a wider post.
For furture reference - here’s where this is logged as known issue -
How come the monzo card doesn’t work at Tesco Pay at the pump ? I tried at BP and it also failed ? The card works fine in ATMs shops etc?
Because it is an offline transaction and the pre-paid model is online only. This will be fixed once the current accounts arrive.

Just as another note, if you want to pay for fuel with Monzo to help track you’re spending it is fine, but you have to go into the kiosk to pay.

Just tried to pay for petrol at Morrisions pay at pump earlier this evening.
It came up as “Mastercard” and then “Cancelled. Pay at kiosk” and I didn’t even put in my PIN!
Came across this post so thought I’d share.

Was this with the prepaid card or the Current Account Debit Card?
If it doesn’t ask for a PIN, then the pump doesn’t recognise the BIN as a debit or credit card and will spit the card out.
It’s an prepaid card, so I guess what it’s doing is correct. For now.

I had the same problem with my Current account debit card. Very annoying - Morrison’s need to get their finger out!!
I also had this problem this morning when using my current account at Morrison’s in Arbroath. Pay at pump. Put the card in and it recognises that its a MasterCard debit card but spat it back out and said pay at kiosk.
