Card declined at Petrol Pump

Hello

My card got declined twice at an atm at work today, It also got declined on the weekend at a Tesco pay at the pump petrol station. Is there anything I can do about this?

Hi Simon, this is a known issue & there’s nothing you can do (other that using cash) to get around it at the moment unfortunately, petrol pumps don’t like prepaid cards

But it will be solved when Monzo launches debit cards, along with the current accounts, after the full bank has launched.

I recently got a Monzo current account /debit card and tried today to purchase petrol via the automatic petrol machine. Card was rejected and I got a message saying to use card in store so looks like having an debit card makes no difference. Kind of disappointing.

Was it Morrisons by any chance? If so, this is a known issue. They operate a whitelist and only allow certain cards to be used in their pumps, and if the card isn’t on the whitelist (which Monzo isn’t yet, but they plan to add it) you have to pay at the kiosk.
