So tempting to get out of bed for
I really like the idea of Agile but December could be scary! I doubt it will be as bad as last year though:
It’s like investing/gambling - play it safe and know what you can walk away with or play it adventurous and win or lose big. I’m going to risk it this winter - if only to be able to run through to next Summer with a full year of Agile data, so I can see if it is really worth a long term stint.
It’ll be only lights and internet December! I’m starting a new trend
You need lights??
Yeah, candle lights
Integrated heating & lighting solution
We call that an oven here.
Octopus now have an online heat pump quoting tool, so I’ve just done it and ours has reduced to £3,385!
Presumably from the extra grant that’s now available.
Posting here too as I’ve been drawn in on this.
My gas boiler is 23 years old so could be time
Is this a no brainer or am I being daft?
Looks like if you have a fairly new property with modern water tank that £3k is zero.
I don’t think they’re doing themselves any favours by making their heat pump look like a recycling bin for sex toys…
At that price, if you can afford it, it’s a no-brainer. The 23-year-old gas boiler is a ticking time-bomb.
Thanks, I’m going to think of this every time now.
I just ran that online heat pump quoting tool, they’re quoting £810 (after grant of £7500 knocked off) which seems very low to me.
Does that include the labour? Or just the kit?
everything, at least according to this.
I’m extremely skeptical of it though, the radiators are hooked up to 10mm microbore plastic piping and the the boiler is at the front of the house (semi detached) right next to the neighbours property so I think the route to get the heat pump outside will be complex - i.e. it’s not just a straight through the wall and plonk the unit on the outside job.
granted: I don’t really know what I’m talking about as I’m not a plumber/heating engineer, I’m almost tempted to get them to come out and do the survey but I’ve watcehd enough heat pump installation videos on youtube to get at least a laymans understanding of what’s involved.
It’s genuine, looking into it and calling through some people’s are effectively free with the £7500 taken off. It completely depends on age of property and detached, semi etc what you get quoted but it’s an all in price.
There’s a caveat in the terms that if it doesn’t meet a standard installation then you’ll be asked to cover the extended work outside what they would do.
They’ll do a few hour survey and then let you know if it’s all fine to continue or if something nonstandard would need addressing to make it work.
it’s a new build (2021), so I’m not really not on top of the list for needing an upgrade to the heating system, the property is well insulated, so if anything the only reason for changing would be on environmental grounds rather than replacing a much older boiler with a newer technology.
tbh though I’d much rather get solar panels + battery storage!
Yeah you’ll get brownie points for the property being a couple years old.
It’ll be doing an Energy Performance Certificate (EPC) lookup too and I would expect it to be high and everything should in theory be more straightforward.
