Octopus Energy Chat

I’m going to start this chat with an odd one, I’ve always been signed in to the Octopus app, but have been signed out and my saved password doesn’t work, anyone else?

Nope. Working fine for me.

Edit: Having said that, the balance on the Home Screen is different to the balance on the bills screen.

I’m back in now, using the same saved password, very weird bug on the server end

Yup I’ve had this since the latest update of the app. About once a day I have to log back in and the password fails the first time I try. And it’s a saved password that works fine the second time.

This is probably the general octopus thread at this point. Has been for several months now.

Just got an email saying that my Octopus Home Mini widget thing is on the way.

Had totally forgotten about it, but also wasn’t expecting it to come so soon.

The Home mini has been working very well for me for almost a month now. If you currently have an In-Home-Display, chuck it in a cupboard and never look at its incorrect figures again. The Octopus mini is very accurate and is almost real-time for electricity usage - just use the Octopus app to see the last 5 or 30 minutes of ‘Live’ electricity data or extended periods of 1-day to 1-year of both electricity & gas data (if you have gas)

It can be an eye-opener!

(There are reports of set-up issues with Android, but my experience was straightforward)

I signed up a while ago but no email for me.

Where do you order it? I can only see a link to join a waiting list.

You can’t order them. There’s only a waiting list

Ah yes. I remember now. I think I signed up last year sometime but then my SMETS1 electricity meter died for months and I forgot about it. I’ll sign up again.

The branding is spot on, it really is damn Mini!

The geek in me shed a little tear that it’s micro USB .

My home mini arrived and I’m unsure as to whether I need to have the old display plugged in or not. Are you saying it isn’t needed? Wasn’t sure if this was a replacement or an add on

It isn’t needed, no. I don’t use my iHD anyway as it’s relatively inaccurate for pricing anyway, I use the Octo-aid app on iOS

I am looking forward to getting my mini though

They’re both independent. But because the typical IHD doesn’t cope well with variable/smart tariffs, they don’t report the pricing properly. I’ve removed our IHD and use just the OHM as the single source of meter data. The Octopus app can display the usage and I have it integrated into my Home Assistant set-up to trigger home automation.

You may choose to use the OHM for electricity and the IHD to show just gas (if it can)

My mini has been delivered and is waiting for me at home. I’m sadly quite excited

Are we not supposed to be excited?! :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

Mine is setup and am now waiting for the data to start coming through.

@andrew_fishy
Great shout on Octo-aid :ok_hand:.
