This is a nice update, but disappointed to see Google replacing Apple Maps. Any chance of an option for future releases?

@tristan - without being on the public forum, and twitter do Monzo send out notifications of new updates - I didn’t get one on my iPhone Monzo app and wouldn’t have known about it without reading it here ?

By the way the new update doesnt require touch ID to access it and no requirement for touch ID for payments - WHOOPS ??? on mine - obviously switched off in settings

The blog was also posted on Facebook. Funnily enough, for this update, there is a screen that you might see at some point, highlighting the update

But I don’t think users got a prompt to update the app - that’s pretty unusual for most apps, to be fair, I guess it could get annoying?

I don’t think there would be that many updates to become annoying - did that screen shot not come up after you’ve downloaded the update ? cant remember - Ill see if other friends know the app has been updated over the next day or so

Yes it only came up afterwards.

why cant Monzo just send out one notification to the users phone so everybody knows without social media that there is an updated version - I know my brother in law will probably be at least 4 versions of the app behind
and also slightly annoying that Monzo cannot keep the existing settings for touch ID requirements

iOS shows updates via appstore though?

People don’t check the app store though.

You can always just turn on ‘Automatic Downloads’ for updates, found in the iTunes & App Stores settings of iOS. And if you’re worried about data you can uncheck the ‘Use Mobile Data’ so it only does this over wifi. Then you never have to worry about updating manually and you’ll always be running the most up to date version of the app

Apple Support page for setting this up :iphone:

Not sure if Google has something similar for Android users…

Thanks Nathan - lifes a journey of lessons  wonder how many Monzo users actually know that though  -

just looked and it was already set to auto downloads on apps in the iTunes and app store settings, but obviously didn’t auto update in this new update - hmmmm ?

Was updates checked? When it says apps its referring to apps purchased on other devices (for example your iPad) that would automatically download to your iPhone too. Updates are for apps already on the device.

??? so I also need to check updates ?

Yeah, you want ‘Updates’ checked and it’ll download new updates for you when you’re connected to wifi (unless you check ‘Use Mobile Data’ too)

thanks Nathan - good job I know about technical stuff otherwise I wouldn’t be getting all these updates lol - and really thats my point - not all users are tech savvy and don’t spend too much time on social media so wouldn’t know about updated versions without a prompt from Monzo

Fair point, I think that most apps in the app store would suffer from this though, including other banking apps. Perhaps :monzo: could make a transaction feed item appear when there’s a new update available? Not sure on the feasibility of this however.
